Since Canadian Fitness/Figure nationals is coming up I thought I'd start a thread. I was just talking to Jennifer Reece who's going to be competing again and of course Jill is also on the boards here.

Hi all,

Good timing for this thread to prompt me to stop lurking and actually register! I always look forward to the 'live updates' from the big shows by Gene and James - I wish I could get to more contests in the States. Maybe next year. For now I will be covering both the Alberta BB/Fig Provincials and the Canadian Fitness & Figure Nationals in Edmonton...and seeing as I'll be updating the website on the road, what better place to contribute than here. For starters here's a pic of Christa Solomon taken at the Westerns in Kelowna. She won overall fitness at the Alberta Provincials last weekend as well so it's on to Nationals.

Gene, will this be a solo trip for you? Should be a busy weekend. Looking forward to meeting and photographing more of the competitors. Thanks,

Wanted to make a comment about Jami and her "missed moment". I cant imagine how I would feel if I was in Jami's position and had missed my moment of achieving an overall national show and pro card invitation in front of my friends and family. I watched her take the news of the calculation mistake after the show was over for the overall. She was was so gracious and professional over the obviously overwhelming news. I just thought I'd post a note to let her know that I was thinking of her and send her some congratulations of my own. tmac

I had a great time in Edmonton. The judges do make me scratch my head a bit though. :headscrat I was told I was too musclular last time so I toned down. I found the top contenders to be very musclular for figure. Oh well, no sour grapes here. It just seems to be a big guessing game every time we compete here in Canada.

From the shots I've seen ... I don't think Gene was imagining things if he saw a "Christmas tree" in your back. Your glutes looked to be about that hard, too. Really amazing package you've presented this year.

Gene can make anyone look good. I tried something new and came in less than last nationals(124 lbs) and WAY less than the Ironman (a whooping 130! lbs), but thats the thing about figure... you just never know. There were 7 judges on the panel from every province and my scores were pretty consistent except from one province who put me 4th in my class... (so you can never know what each person thinks as "ideal"...) Oh well, we'll see what they think of me at the North Americans.... LOL

It's nice to recognize most of the girls on the site afte competing at the Nationals.

Congratulations to all the girls at the Canadian Nationals - everyone looked fabulous and we are all champions. A special hi to all the Ontario girls - Lori Anne; Kim; Cindy; Nancy........ hope to see you all at the North Americans.

It was quite an experience I'll never forget - especially at 44 years of age. It was exciting especially standing on stage next to Emmanuella P. - she was #4 and I was #3. I've been training for 22 years and competed in the late 80's as a lightweight bodybuilder. I took approx 14 years off competition and returned just last year because of Figure. I find it is a little confusing with the Figure. I competed in the OPA Level 1/2/3 in 2005 and won all the short figure and master classes. I competed in the 2006 Ontario Provincial Naturals and came in 1st in the masters and 2nd in the middle height (I was deducted points because of my muscularity - I was told by the judges I had the best conditioning and deserved 1st but needed to tone down) and at the Canada's they wen't for muscularity and hardness. Now I am preparing for the Canadian World Qualifier and North Americans. I am trying to decide do I tone down or stay the way I looked at the Nationals? It's a hard decision - but I think I will come in the way I looked at the Nationals.

I believe the Naturals strive towards fitness models and the Canadian Nationals strive towards more bobybuilding. In my opinion figure should be in the middle - fit with moderate muscularity/elegance/poise and beauty. I am looking forward to my future competitions and meeting all kinds of new people. Well I must go! Everyone have a beautiful and brilliant day and continue with all your hard training.

Plus I don't know who said that they like her better with short hair well your going to hear it straight from the "Motor City" fan... I'm glad that she's sporting Long/Medium length of hair because it looks Very Attractive and Sexy. Whatever you do Jamie don't stop what you're doing because it works.

Yeah Jamie shot with a ton of folks at the show so you should see her around a lot - and as a Pro we get to see her on a stage down in the US! :)

I also wanted to add a good note about how the contest itself was run. I added a blurb on the contest report, but the promoter (Cabel McElderry (http://www.fitnessfx.com/)) did a great job with the show. Prejudging did run long, but that was more a function of the amount of athletes.

This was an amazing show - I think one of the biggest and best national figure & fitness show since I first stepped on stage in 2003! The calibur of athletes, the amazing volunteers and promoter, the prizes and the entire experience of competing in my home town again was just amazing!!

Gene - very fun shooting with you on Sunday - hope you didn't get sun stroke? :) Can't wait to see the pics!

WOW just read the final results from the www.Cbbf.ca Web site. Five pro cards given out at the Nationals on July 1st. Wonderful. Congratulations to all the new PROs. A special congratulations to the MASTER Pro Winner LISA TAYLOR.

It's nice to see a PRO card given out to a MASTER CLASS. It was nice competing with you in the MASTERs Lisa - you look great and good luck in your future pro shows.

Awe thank you. Although i definitely took away a lot from this competition (keeps my ego from getting too big LMAO). I'm back to the provincial level on August 19th to hopefully requalify for next year's nationals.... and after maybe learn something beyond a cartwheel LOL!
