I was shooting with a model yesterday and last evening, age 17, in her bikini, thong bikini, jeans and bikini top. A lady in the park got pissed and yelled at us, thinking my model was nude. I explained to her from the distance that she had on a bikini. She did not believe me and threatened to call police. I said go ahead and continued shooting. The office came and I was shooting as he walked up, thinking all was OK. I offered to show him the pics and he looked, saying some were questionable. Borderline is what he said. He checked all of our ID's, and one of our party was a local girl who runs 2 model websites of bikini models, so she was used to this kind of thing. She had been along to watch a photo shoot.

In the end he asked if I knew she was 17, I said yes. He said because some of the images were questionable they could be construed as pornography! Told me the legal age was 18. Now I was under the impression that pornography involved more than one person or solo sexual acts and/or nudity. There was NONE of that here. He stated that the lace panties showed through a "little." WTF??

So, he said they had to log my camera in with my memory card. I asked to remove the card and he tried to get the Seargent to accept that but was told they felt better if the whole camera was logged in to avoid any possible damage on their part to my camera.

There are NO nude images on my card or any "porno." I am not really worried about that, but I would like my images that we got that are REALLY good. And I have a shoot tomorrow and would like to photograph my daughter Sunday, but now they have my camera!!!

They want to make sure I am not one of those predators, which they will find out I am not. So.... now what???

A little pissed

It does not have to be nude to be considered pornography, it has to be sexually explicit. I'm sure in the park none of that was going on so that blows that they took your camera.

You are right, but apparently they had no right to, just that I let them. 17 is legal in Missouri and no charges were pressed, there is no victim, etc.

No offense Doug but why would you be doing bikini shots of a 17 year old in the first place?

That without a doubt was one of the most idiotic questions....you're a piece of work...You crack on anyone....people you don't even know....why do you think he was taking pictures?...uhhh...could it be because she looked great....take you're friggin mind out of the gutter and go pimp your #1 design and branding site to someone who cares....
Oh and Doug....don't pay any attention to him....he get's his kicks being a jerk...a big jerk...

Come on!! 17??? Geez, of legal age in Missouri. End of story, the detective looked at all images, even her in lingerie, brought my camera and all images back to me, stated nothing was out of line, case closed.

Do some research, a LOT of models start at 14-15. Bikini of 17 is no big deal, as the detective stated. Nothing illegal on my part of hers.

George you're a bitter old man, please stop following me around and spewing your hate.

I was asking legitimately, why would you in the first place... Was it for her portfolio or for a web site? I realize everyone has to start somewhere and based on the photos you're publishing on your site it doesn't appear as though you're working with any magazines or modeling agencies. Again that's why I asked. If that's me being a jerk, so be it.

Glad you got your camera back and case is closed.

nice try....first thing is...This is a nice board and there is no hate on this board...so please stop trying to insert it...we all see you for what and who you really are....you're a little full of yourself if you think I'm "following you around"...nope...you're not that important to me....and you never will be....and you always seem to open every comment to me/about me as being a bitter old man...you're right about one thing...I'm old...so perhaps you should show some proper upbringing and respect your elders?....oh...I forget....you don't respect anyone or anything....give it a rest....I'm not bitter...I just don't like you....what you stand for...and how you conduct yourself here and on other msg boards....with your better than thou...cracking on, sly/smart as*, and very often self righteous remarks....but...if you think that voicing my opinion on your actions is bitter....then so be it....but I'm sure the people who know me....think differently.....and yes...there are actually people who know me....just ask the many many women I photograph....the ones you say I objectify?...was that another attempt to make me "look bad"?...sorry...they know the truth...and they don't think so...if they did...they wouldn't do shoots with me.....That being said...when you say stupid things...and make veiled OR overt cracks on people as you are infamous for....you know the....kind you're always doing on that other board...and what you said here......you shouldn't be allowed to get away with it....period...end of discussion....with you anyway....

Oh and BigD....to get back on topic...glad to hear you got your camera back....

They are for her own personal use, I have an agreement with ehr to not even put hers on my site, except some of her bikini shots from my shootout. Oh, and I am actually working to get an agency going as we speak. :)

Thanks, yep, got it back, all images, and no mention from the detective as to where I was even shooting these! :) Apparently it wasn't even considered public indecency since she was covered, even scantilly. He said nothing was illegal, just some bitty trying to assert herself and her own ideas of decency on me.

I think you should employ "The Mom Test." Is this something you can tell your Mom you did? What would her reaction be? I always use The Mom Test.

I am old enough to not need my mom's permission. :) HER mom loves the images and there is only bikini, etc. Big deal. It all only happened because some old biddy saw us from 200 feet away and accused us of her being nude. The issue was the cops taking my camera without a court order. Yes, I got it all back the next evening after detectives had gone through all the images for that evening and told me all was on the up and up. :) Even in lingerie, they told me all my images were well within being legal. Like I already knew that anyway. Shows you the trouble other citizens can cause by sticking their noses where they don't belong.

I'm just now checking out this thread and I'm sorry to hear what's happened to you BigD (Doug). But I don't know if you know but ever since last month in May the media as well as law enforcement has been doing a major crackdown on internet pedifiles & sex offenders (especially the ones who use myspace.com). But that does not mean that anyone who's on that or anyother website is a sex offender.

Just so I don't have any misinterpetations to all of the posters on here who uses myspace, I'm not trying to stereotype here but just to bring folks awareness on the situation at hand.

Dateline NBC (in May 2006) has broadcast the whole pedifile/myspace busts in Ft. Meyers, FL and it should give clues about anyone who gets into those personals or chatrooms with underage teens plus a lot of them show explicit photos of themselves on that website. But again not everyone who uses myspace is a perv just because of the actions of a few individuals.

Law enforcement here in the Metro Detroit/Southeastern Michigan area including the Wayne, Oakland & Macomb County Sheriffs Depts. have been cracking down on pedifiles & other internet predators big time in the last couple of months.

Again Doug I'm sorry to hear about the drama that you've experienced and I'm glad that you're innocent it seems that folks need to watch before they could judge so prematurely period but that's America for you: Guilty before proven Innocent Period which sucks. Stay Strong BigD and keep your head up Good Buddy, Peace.

My gut reaction to this is that I feel that what the police officer did was right and reguardless if it was 'legal' or not, it's still puts you in a highly vulernable position.

The police have to make quick decisions constantly. He gets a report of nudity at a park and responds to a guy (sorry I dont know your age) and a 17 year old girl doing a photoshoot. He doesnt know you or has seen your website. And how does he know if you 2 werent doing nudity BEFORE he arrived? He doesnt know the whole story and has to make a decision as to whether your telling the truth or not. And Im sure he's met PLENTY of 17 year olds who have made wrong decisions as to what they do and who they associate with.

And as far as the lady complaining, it's her park too. Maybe she just wants to relax, enjoy the sunshine and feed some pigeons. I mean, if I was at a park with my 3 children and theres some guy shooting pictures of a 17 year old boy in a thong, i would be kinda pissed too. Again, I dont know your whole story but I dont necessarily fault the lady, some people dont like it and you have to be mindful of that.

I've shot some pix of Ali Huston in a dress and blouse. She was 19 at the time. I 'might' shoot an 18 year old girl, depending on the circumstances. But 17, i would not shoot. I dont care what she says or what the laws are. I just would not do it. That my 2 cents. thanks

It was dark and we were shooting in a lit tunnel, getting some really cool pics. We also had another person with us, hence a witness against what the lady was saying. Anyway, I have NO complaint the the officer did his job. What IS not right is that my camera was confiscated without a court order, which I found out was not right after the fact.

You are quite correct. That is called Illegal Search and Seizure.
