2006 Southern States Results and Photos

Hey all,

Not as big a show as the Team U, but it was a good event. Here are the results with Nekole Hamrick winning the overall Bodybuilding and newcomer, Amy Thompson winning overall figure.

The Southern States also had the first time I had see a figure posedown! They played the music and the girls went 'head to head' with a frenzy of quarter turns!

Yes, there are some of her in the mix. She was a guest poser at the evening show and looked fantastic. A great performance too.

BTW, the Florida beaches were awesome!

Nekole came in quite hard ... glad the judges rewarded her efforts. Her abdominal veins are a nice calling card.

If only American figure competition would do as WABBA does. Those physiques are amazing ... hard as nails. Deep cuts and veins seem to be heartily encouraged. Search for pics of Avril here on this forum.

Yes she is doing Nationals. Steve Wennerstrom was trying to convince her to do Masters Nats as she is in terrific condition right now. But she is going to wait till Nationals.

Both Elena Seiple & Debi Laszewski in the Nationals which is cool and in my opinion I should think that the NPC should allow both of them to turn pro since they're both ready for the IFBB. Plus Debbie looks so Beautiful & Sexy period.

And not to take away the original purpose of this thread but congrats to Nekole Hammerick on her victory in this contest since this is a popular regional contest besides the Emerald Cup.

I am SO happy for Nekole!! She is a knockout beauty with a tremendous physique...very Cory Everson-esque. YAY, YAY, YAY for her!!!!!

Ah...Debi is doing Nationals, as well as Britt Miller, and Elena Seiple, and Jody May, and so on and so on... Honestly, if any of the Nats competitors are reading this, please hear me when I say that if I would've gotten caught up in "who's coming" to the Nats '04, I might never have competed! Your best bet is to stay focused in the gym, do your homework, and bring your best look to the stage. Bringing an UNDENIABLE package cannot be denied after all. ;)

Thank you so much for posting that pic. Debi is always looking great. It is so nice to see her doing the Nationals again this year. She'll be looking damn good once again.... I heard from so many people that went to the Southern States that she was in phenomenal shape. I'm so excited for her! :)

Yeah, it's a shame American Figure competitions don't do as we Euro's do!
They seem to want the ladies to come in softer and softer for every competition.
It is quite staggering when you see pictures of European Figure athletes, they are ripped to the max! :cool:

Yeah, they do figure "pose downs" at all the South Florida shows...it's kind of amusing.
This show has been hurt the last couple years by Team U and Fig. Nationals being held on the same weekend, but it was a decent turn out of competitors.
Debi looked great and had a great routine (as usual).

See, you're just as bad as me! That's why I always have to come to you for a great pre-show quote!

Anyway, yes, guilty as charged! But, in my defense, I try to not just say who is going to be competing but (with the help of my, um, sources) actually say who is going to be a contender in each weight class. Translated into 'G-ese': it's not about who's coming, it's about who's bringing it. :)

As for Jody, she is definitely the heavyweight to beat after placing second last year. It was so great to see her come out of nowhere (a little like Leighsa Bailey the year before), especially because she had been thinking of quitting before that. Bonny Priest deserves a lot of credit for bringing her in in such great shape as well.

Hi Hans. :D I've been around, just quietly lurking. Yes, I was at Southern States. Debi definitely looks awesome. She's even made improvements over last year, which is hard to believe because she looked so amazing then. I can't wait for Nationals. Should be exciting.
