View Full Version : The 2006 Canadian Nationals (The Bodybuilding Version)

July 31st, 2006, 03:58 PM
All right everyone besides the North Americans & The Nationals, this contest has turned out some of the of the Best & Most Beautiful & Symmetrical Women Bodybuilders north of the US/Canadian Border.

And now that all of the Fitness & Figure Women have been showcased, it's only fair that our fellow North Americans get their fair shar of Love, Props and Respect as well.

Hopefully next year, the Canadian equivalent of the NPC would schedule this contest on a different date so it won't conflict with the IFBB North American International Championships.

So without further ado, We want to know which Beautiful Women Bodybuilders are going to be competing for those 2 IFBB Pro Cards.

And I do mean all 4 weight classes because inquiring minds would like to know, Peace. :dj_spnnin :)

I'll be there...competing as a middleweight :)

This is Cindy Phillips's show everybody else just save your money and come back in '07.....no disrespect to the other comp'ers, i like her chances :) Jody Wald and Kim Birtch and 2 too definately watch out for!

Tre
August 1st, 2006, 11:34 AM
Kim Birtch will not be able to compete this year because of an injury.

Cbdetroit - are you 100% certain that 2 pro cards will be awarded in the women's division?

Scott - Cindy is going to look dynamite...don't sleep on Jody Wald, though, cuz she's got big, boomin' muscles.

cbdetroit
August 1st, 2006, 04:24 PM
Well Tre let's see last year Autumn Raby (My Hero!!!! whoohoo!!) and Colette Guimond 2 pro cards.

And at the 2003 Canadians: Helen Bouchard and Christine Roth won two pro cards as well.

Especially with both contests simotaneously being held the same weekend as the IFBB North Americans it might be possible but you may know something that I don't know.

Hopefully the new pros from this contest won't hesitate in going to compete in any of the Olympia Weekend qualifiers in the future because just like their American counterparts, these Ladies have got what it takes and would do very well in the IFBB pro ranks.

If anyone else know of anymore potential competitors than feel free to go ahead and holler, peace.:dj_spnnin:)

Jason

Along with the afore mentioned ladies, i think will be Pamela Howard and Nicole Ball as well.

You know what everyone I'm LOVING the excitement of seeing Nadia Nardi, Cindy Phillips & Nicole Ball competing in that contest those Women would be my favorite Middleweights & Light-Heavyweights to beat at the show because they're at the Peak of Perfection in my opinion.

And if anyone else knows who else may show up for competiton then feel free to HOLLER!!!! Because inquiring minds would like to know, Peace.:dj_spnnin:)

No yer right, I Have NEVER come in lean enough. Totally true.

But I have only competed a couple times. This will be my first time competing with the national girls. I DO NOT expect to even compare to Nadia, Nicole or Jody.....they are the top Canadian girls. I'll just diet like evryone else does and come in better than last time and i'll be happy.

cbdetroit - we don't actually have a Light-Heavy class here in Canada, but I wish we did...now, provided we all make weight, me, Nicole and Cindy will be in the same class :) As for Jody, she has moved up to Heavyweight, she will do well, but not without some serious competition from Pam Howard who will be coming in totally shredded.....
Back to who 'is' competing...I'm not sure about the LW's, but in the MW class there should be quite a few - some names I can recall are: Janeen Lankowski (returning after a 2nd place finish last year), Lyris Capelle who looks to be shaping up nicely, Nicole Ball (she always shows up shredded), the very cute- Cindy Phillips, Carmen Tocheniuk is said to be moving up to MW also....of course, I will be returning this year after taking last year off... there are several others who have mentioned competing, we'll have to wait and see who shows up. For me, this show will be awesome as it's being hosted in my hometown...

In the HW class - Jody and Pam, Tatiana Anderson will be returning this year, new-comer Allie Casselamn will be competing too....I'm not sure if Zoa will be returning this year, she moved out of the country... Kim Birtch is out due to an injury....as with the MW's, I'm sure there will be more.

Canadian chick - regardless of what anyone says, I think you'll show up this year and surprise a lot of people....STAY FOCUSSED!!!

And that's sad :( because an extra 4th class would've been terrific and bring in more competitors just like the National-Level & Pro qualifiers here in the States because like I said, you, Cindy & Nicole would make Beautiful Middleweight & Light-Heavyweight Bodybuilders period. ;)

You Ladies' Symmetry & Proportions are definitely in the Ms. International/Ms. Olympia class. Major Love, Props & Respect to you & the Ladies and Best of Luck from the Motor City fan.

I swear alot of that is age, so far Ive had the same problem and I think its cause Im young. Getting really dry seems so hard compared to the older girls. Maybe I just havent found the right recipe yet I dont know.

What about Wendy McMaster, what level is she competing at? The last time I saw pictures, she was packing a lot of muscle. If she's able to get shredded, she could be a real serious contender a la Nadia and Jody. I think it's going to take place again in Montreal which is great news, since it'll be only a bus ride away!

I don't understand why Johanna Dejager doesn't have her pro card yet?

http://messages.herbiceps.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Physique;action=display;num=1142082 964

Her abs are looking as good as her biceps, which is saying a LOT!

August 7th, 2006, 07:45 AM
I agree with you Mark000 100% but I noticed in that link that she competed in what I would guess Tri Bi Singh (if I spelled his/her name correctly) has said is the Canadian equivlent of the NPC Team Universe.

Johanna's looking Beautiful on those photos in the thread and she deserves to be a pro.

I wonder how did she do in that contest to qualify for the IFBB Worlds becuase if she didn't then maybe she should consider competing in this contest as well since this is a IFBB Pro qualifier as well.:)

Nadia Nardi
August 7th, 2006, 08:49 AM
She competed two days ago at the World Qualifier hosted in Toronto and she won! They do not award pro cards at the event because it is a 'qualifier' for the Worlds....by all accounts, she was incredibly shredded on stage this year - striated glutes and all. I think she would do well at the Canadian Nationals.

cbdetroit
August 7th, 2006, 09:59 AM
That's Good news Nadia, but I'm sorry to hear that she wasn't awarded a pro card becuase she would do very Well in the pro ranks.

But I could undersatand that the rules and policies are different when it comes to Bodybuilding as opposed to how the officials do it here in the States.

Other than that I Love the photos of her and the other Canadian Women's physique's with the "Freaky Shredded" look, some of the best in the Continent.

If anyone else knows who may compete at this contest, HOLLER becuase inquiring minds would like to know, Peace.:dj_spnnin:)

cbdetroit
August 17th, 2006, 06:49 AM
I agree with you Nadia, hopefully the Canadian equivalent of the NPC would get their priorities straight and quit hosting their Nationals on the same weekend as the North Americans becuase it's doing nothing but hurting their fellow athletes chances of turning pro.

Beyond that if anyone else knows of anyone who's going to be competing at the 2006 Canadian Nationals, then please feel free to post progression/transformation photos or HOLLER, because inquiring minds would like to know.

12 days to go!

roman - I agree, Cindy does look great...I think she is on the brink of showing up in the best shape of her life!

cbdetroit - as it stands right now...there are only five 'heavies' registered, but there are roughly 12 or 13 'middles', unsure of the lightweights at this time. If I hear anything I'll be sure to let you know.

I think that Johanna has a pro-caliber physique and her competitive resumé speaks for itself.

Johanna won the Lightweight AND Overall titles at the World Qualifiers, though I thought her dieting left her looking a bit thin. I don't know why she felt compelled to enter as a lightweight, since she'd have easily won the middlewight class where she usually competes. Maybe she feels she'd do better in the Worlds as a lightweight, and it's necessary to qualify in the same weight class. I don't know their rules.

I agree that she's attractive, but how do I know she's feminine? Feminine is thrown around very loosely in this forum, but there's a lot of considerations when it comes to whether or not a woman is feminine. A woman can de drop dead gorgeous and be very far from being feminine if you know what I mean. If you're saying Cindy is attractive I would agree, but you have to find out somethings about a woman before you know how feminine she is.

I'm only bringing this up, because there are women bodybuilders that might not be as "attractive therefore not as feminine" as other so called "feminine" bodybuilders, yet they are a lot more feminine than some of these bodybuilding divas that are deemed to be so "feminine" in these forums.

gymdiva1222
September 16th, 2006, 12:07 PM
just like the sport, it's all subjective...you either look at a woman and say she is or isn't in your view...in Hans' view (as my own) she is...there's no one right or wrong answer on it...I wouldn't let it worry you...

just like the sport, it's all subjective...you either look at a woman and say she is or isn't in your view...in Hans' view (as my own) she is...there's no one right or wrong answer on it...I wouldn't let it worry you...
I don't. I just think that too often people confuse beauty or attractiveness with being feminine. They are seperate and unrelated. Let's face it, there's a lot of hot looking women out there that have a sexual preference for other women. Regardless of how attractive a woman might be doesn't that fly in the face of the very essense of being feminine?

Women thought Rock Hudson was the epitome of manliness in the 50's before they found out he swang from the other side of the plate.

sexual orientation has nothing to do with being feminine...or masculine...it's all in what you personally hold as the ideal of either and you go from there...

Perhaps now you can see what I mean when I say that beauty has nothing to do with femininity. I understand where you're going, so in that case I would prefer that forum members withhold judgement when they deem that a competitor is not feminine enough...is that fair? I just think that too often beauty is confused with feminine. A woman can look hot until you find out that she curses like a sailor, spits on the sidewalk, and walks like a man.

Sometimes they call the competitors out according to potential placing before mandatory comparisons, and other times they seem to call them out in order numerically.

All our Canadian competitions (well at least the ones here in Ontario), call out the numerical orders first... and then the potential placing calls after this. I guess it was the other way around this time? Such a minor detail... but such a crucial one isn't it? Well, I guess we shall see in a few hours!!!

Last year, Janeen almost didn't make her class... she was almost a heavyweight last year! She had within the half hour we were allotted to shed the weight to make the class... and she pulled it off. This year, Janeen added more size - so it was expected that she would end up a HW! She looked pretty good though and she carries the size pretty well.

Does anyone know if they gave out a "best poser" award? Janeen won it last year... did she do it again?

It would've been nice to see another FBB get a second pro card like either Nadia or Cindy to turn pro because they possesed Very Good Pro Caliber Physiques as well.

Hey by the way Gene do you have an evening contest photo of Nicole available? If so thanks.:)

No second card from now on. The CBBF passed a rule that there will only be one card for the overall and not a 2nd optional one any more for both the men and women so that's why there was just Nicole Ball turning pro.
With the CBBF, the odds are always roughly 50-50 that they'll do something really smart vs doing something really stupid.

There was no need for this item to even be on the agenda...what a waste of time. If you look at the stage and don't see 2 physiques worthy of pro status, then don't award a 2nd card. Geez, how hard is that?

At any rate, there were 2 pro cards awarded in the men's classes this weekend (both well-deserved), so it's all good. On the women's side, it's tough to see Pam Howard denied again, but her day will come. Cindy P is also a future pro, no doubt about it. I'm also a big fan of Jody Wald and Nadia Nardi...both have the goods, and both will get to the next level if they decide to stay in the game.

And for the record, I thought the CBBF judges did a great job with almost all the placings this weekend.

Man, I just saw the highlights for the first time and must say that I believe it was a questionable decision on Helen's part to go and put on so much size... :1eek:

I mean geezz.......I almost confused her for Colette Guimond at first.

Hate to say it but her stock will be slipping with them favoring sleeker look and all, unless she plans to trim down a lot more before showtime.

As far as the contest goes.....I don't mind Nicole Ball being the champ, but there's no way Cindy should have left without a pro card. If they can give 2 the previous years they could have certainly done it here.

Which proves that its all about favortism and name recognition with these people. I surprise Cindy isn't upset about it.....but she still a bit young and mabe a little nieve. Makes me wonder though if a possible switch to figure is in the works for her...........

I think Helen is doing what Helen wants and she is in great shape and happy with what she's presenting on stage so that's what's most important.

As far as Cindy it is good that she was on stage again and hopefully shot with more people and she doesn't have good name recognition now. We shot with her and will be promoting her on the site and I know that most of the photogs were in Canada so hopefully that'll help.

This is my first posting, so I definately don't want to bash, but I have to agree and disagree with you Brandi.

Eddie was definately a little too passionate about the pro card give away ... Also, Cindy Phillips looked incredible, but even she would probably admit she is thrilled with 2nd, and could use one more year of muscle maturity to give turning pro a true chance.

I also agree that Nicole Ball stood out as the most ripped and was a quite deserving overall champ. I also think there was someone who equally dominated her class, Pam Howard.

Looking at Pam over the years, she looks to have done a complete physique overhaul, looking amazing this weekend. She always had the size to turn pro, but now she has the proportions. No other HW was close, and while everyone can pull for their favourites, if Ms Howard had been awarded the 2nd pro card, I don't think too many people would have disagreed.

Brandi, keep up the good work ... you look great! Plans to compete in BB? Hope you don't mind the counterpoint, especially since it was well thought out first, and not random "fan" ramblings :)

Cool ... though after seeing the Europa pictures and results, I think without an American Passport, placing in a pro show is a painstaking process regardless of condition! Heather Foster is awesome, sadly missed her mark conditioning wise, yet still won? The top 7 were all American ... Gina Davis has one of the most amazing physiques, but was not ripped either ...

So it is hard to say it takes a certain "leanness", as the pro results don't necessarily show that consistently ...

In any event, there used to be a pro card for every class winner in the Canadian Nats, and giving out 2 pro cards every year would be great for Canadian BB.

Bad post.

Helen is an amazing professional physique competitor. I can't see any fan *not* respecting what she brings to the table.

As for Cindy, she was 2nd in a very tough class against veteran competition. She did a great job preparing for this show and I'm really proud of her.

There was no favoritism - Nicole was the better competitor and the deserving winner. I don't think Cindy is upset at all over the result.

I dunno about his reason but it rained ALL weekend and was cold as ... you know what. Boo to crappy weather and bad parking.
Yep - two trips to Saskatoon now, and weather has been poopy both times. This weekend was beyond horrible, though.

The venue was nice, but in general, the community was not as courteous as I might've expected.

Cool ... though after seeing the Europa pictures and results, I think without an American Passport, placing in a pro show is a painstaking process regardless of condition!

I think you'd get an AMEN from the European competitors.

Eddie I admire your passion and wanting to give so many women pro status but I have to be honest, there was only 1 pro female physique on that stage and that was nicoles. She stood out like a sore thumb and no one else came close.

The men I thought could have given away a 2nd cards tho, some stellar physiques from the heavies and super heavies.
Wow Brandi, we agree on something :) . You are absolutely correct about Nicole. She was totally dialed in, and she was most deserving of her pro card.. Good for her, by the way, nice camos.

To be honest if they gave her a card I would have though something was up. She looked great, but is not ready to be a pro

How the hell was it a "bad post".

Right.

And I stated my opinion about your opinion. Sure, my opinion was factual, but still, it passes for opinion. ;)

Helen looks fantastic. Call me crazy if you want, but I didn't think it was cool of you to rip on the woman for looking amazing. This is still bodybuilding we're talking about. Hey, if she'd been posing onstage while bloated at 50 lbs overweight, then yeah, you'd have been right to complain.

YES, you absolutely are entitled to your opinion. But at the same time, Helen has earned the right to have people speak in support of her.

I don't know if Cindy saw the entire competition, but I do know that she's proud of how good she looked this weekend. For her not to turn pro in her first try at Nationals is NOT a disappointment, for crying out loud. She's going to go back home, continue to refine her physique, and she'll be that much better a year from now when she's ready to give it another go, and she'll be the odds-on favorite to win the middleweight class.

Let's not start a pity party for Cindy - she looked great, earned a great placing, and was the #1 most talked about athlete at the show.

K, can't keep my mouth shut on this one.....

Tre, YOU ROCK AS ALWAYS!!!!! I'm right behind ya on backing up the wonderful Ms. Bouchard. She has completely busted her a$* since turning Pro, she is dedicated beyond what most of us can even comprehend. Her first few Pro shows, she was told she was too small...cudos to the woman for the hard work she put into her physique to give the judges what they want.

As for them not giving out 2 Pro cards....kinda stupid when you look at the Fitness and Figure Nationals, where they gave out 5!!!!! Ridiculous.

At the same time, we need to remember that Pro cards are NOT given out based on hard work, how much you've changed since your last show or potential to do well. The judges are looking for the physique that is going to fit in on a Pro stage, period.

Just my 2 cents!!!

No second card from now on. The CBBF passed a rule that there will only be one card for the overall and not a 2nd optional one any more for both the men and women so that's why there was just Nicole Ball turning pro.

if this is true, how does one explain the Pro card given to the mens masters champ?

Brandi Burns
September 19th, 2006, 08:35 PM
Thats not a 2nd pro card. Thats a normal one they give away. The 2nd one is the
"optional" one to a person who didnt nessicarily win their class but shows potential as a pro (like Christine Roth).

I'll go even further by saying that Helen Bouchard is very very Beautiful, Classy & Sexy and I just can't get over how she's built her body to the peak of perfection. I truly Love her "Thickly Beefy Dense Freaky Shredded Vascular Ripped" to the Max.

And if Helen reads this, then let her know that she shouldn't stop what she's doing because it works and The "Motor City" fan Loves what he sees.:)

Also again I want to congratulate Nicole Ball on her victory at the Canadian Nationals because she's also very Beautiful, Classy & Sexy. No doubt that her, Canadian Chick (Cindy Phillips) and Nadia Nardi have wrote the book on Building & Developing a "Freaky Shredded Vascular Ripped" physique combined with Symmetrical Feminine Proportions. You Ladies along with Helen are my Heroes.:)

you didnt even come close to answering my original question. lol

If 1 card is to be given to the men and 1 to the women, how did the men get 2 cards? or was the rule implemented after this years nationals?

The way you explain it, you are making it sound like the card Fouad won was a optional card?

Brandi Burns

no.. fouad wont he overall and his class. They decided to give away a card to the mens masters winner aswell. This is still not the 2nd optional card.

So much talent, and awesome physiques at this show. I was blown away. FTV did a wonderful job in their presentation, and coverage of the show, and I thank everyone who makes this web site happen.

I am a big fan of Cindy Phillips, and Pam Howard, and I am glad that they both did so well. I sure hope that there will be some photo shoots of them in post contest condition.

Helen Brouchard's physique was mind-blowing. She looks huge, and still has an incredible amount of shapelyness. Awesome photos.

There were so many Canadian competitors looking incredible. Congratulations to all the women for looking so good, and to Nicole Ball on winning such a competitive event.

Fair or not is not my call but the 2nd mens cards was a masters pro card. Quick question is there a pro master women div?

Just wanted you to know, that if you thought the weather was "poopy" then, you should be here now. We are in a cold snap (week long so far) of -30C (-34F) with -40C (-40F) windchills.
As for this years weather during the Nationals, we had mid +20's just before than the rain came just for that weekend. We are a semi-arid ( about 17 inches of moisture/year).
I was at the show and really enjoyed it (first time at this kind event).
