I think your competitive future in this sport is very promising.
Keep at it girl........it seems your getting better and better.
And along with winning a strongwoman title, maybe you could get a Gene X Award for best 2 sport athlete. :) hint, hint to Gene....lol.

Awesome E!!! So cool to get that experience. Bodybuilding athletes never get that kind of treatment when to go to compete. How cool it must have been to be over there representing the USA! Great job!!! Think if you really focus on it for next year... you could do some serious damage.

Makes a big difference doesn't it? I hear that a lot when people talk about the athletes in powerlifting and strongwoman. Most are very friendly and supportive. It's different from bodybuilding because bodybuilding is so subjective. Strongwoman/PL'ing/Olympic Lifting is pretty cut and dry, either you lift the weight/object or you don't. Not much anyone can dispute.

It is very different. Also all competitors are compensated...not just top three or what not. THey really take care of the girls. The trip was paid for, everything there was taken care of....They gave you outfits for every event ...you just are treated like a somebody and they really respect and love you . No negativity ....none.

Sounds like they need to school the IFBB on how to do the same.

Hmmm.....well just in my opinion....I think that may be cutting a bit close.
With the energy that you'll need for the strongwoman event, I think having a body that's been dieted down for bodybuilding could hurt your chances for success. And on the flip side the detail that's needed in your phyisque for bodybuilding may not be there come showtime as well.
Its certainly your call Elena......but I'd put up a red flag to that strategy.

I don't think it would affect my detail for bodybuidling. Strongman competition is much easier than training day too....you go longer and do more in a training day than a comp day....for instance comp day Ill do one run of the farmers walk where as in training ill do several runs of it.... My concern is for the other part you mentioned which is potential injury. Ill make the call soon and decide.
We will see.....I have plenty of time to decide what I am going to do. But I appreciate your feedback:)

Eddie... you'd be surprised to see how lean she is right now and can still do all of those events/weights she mentioned above. She's been pretty lean all year, I doubt she'll have an issue dialing it in.

That Shield Walk kinda gives me the heebie-jeebies ... I keep waiting for someone to drop that thing on their foot

I loved the shield walk...but it was 240 pounds ...and it wasn't terribly heavy to carry just awkward and I weighed only around 148-150 so I couldn't go as fast as i wanted because it was on grass and the faster you go the weight likes to pull you forward...whats that word? MOMENTUM...so you have to focus on staying bent back and walk with this thing. And eventually after a couple of laps the thing slides...and it did almost give my toe a good crushing but I was so quick and agile...LOL i was able to avoid the disaster!
Amanda you are being TOOOO KIND...LOL
FYI...i had no problems NOT cheating over there...I was starving by the time I got home. All I wanted was a protien shake and a diet pepsi ahhhhh

Here is a pic from about a week or so before the competition to give you an idea of the shape I was in for the show....Ill post show pics as soon as I resize them....This is called the Frame carry...the frame itself is around 100 or more pounds I believe plus the weight so this is a pretty light frame. In Poland I had a fan come up to me and say " I never saw such a small strong woman" Trust me I looked Tiny compared to the other women. They were all taller and weighed more than me.
Oh The tire in the background is our 650 pound tire...:) I like flipping that one...The big one in the background is 1050.....I don't go near that one except to sit on it!

You know ... this is an interesting tangent. Can we compare the effects of (a) strongwoman competition and (b) traditional mass building for BB competition? How do your muscles respond to both?
Could SW training actually increase the detail in your muscles? Seems to me that for many of the events, you have to have unworldy muscular endurance ... it looks to be a lactic-acid derby to me! Perhaps there's an effect similar to how hours of posing practice helps definition?

Strongman has definately caused certain muscle groups to develop more...for instance my hamstrings, shoulders and traps...endurance as well ....its hard to compare. I train completely different for SM...I do it one day a week but I do incorporate certain SM moves into BB training , and PL training.
I am not sure if it increases detail as that is due to low body fat and diet but it does lead to increased mass.

HOWEVER...I have to add STRENGTH and SIZE are not always related. There are alot of small women that are Strong....Joint and TENDON strength play a MAJOR role in being able to perform effectively. If your tendons can't handle the weight and joints...then doesn't matter how big you are.

So VERY cool Elena!
You make a good point about tendon strength. I was watching a powerlifting meet and this guy came out and was going to attempt 500lbs. I though, "No frigging way!" I don't think he weighed 200lbs, but he got it.

Good insight, Elena. This is a subtle point on which I've never been totally clear. What I was thinking about was the actual shape of the muscle and the depth of the detail under the skin, regardless of body fat (and of course, too much body fat, and that detail is invisible anyway).
Does SW training do things like increase the depth of striations in the deltoid and pecs, say (regardless of what tissue is laying over the muscle)? Or is that kind of thing conclusively a function of body-fat level? TIA for the knowlegde :sprite10:

This should be very interesting. One -- you've got some extra muscle mass to "give back" when you lean down. Two -- I'll place some chips on the proposition that you've got some extra muscular definition to uncover.
If you keep at kind of a combo of SW and tradtional BB training ... the cumulative changes to your physique could be be startling going into the 2007 contest season.

I will say this...My waist is tighter/smaller ...shoulders are bigger , back and traps got thicker and my inner hamstring from the rear got thicker from all the pushing event and SLDL events.

You are so correct on this. My left shoulder joint is problematic, and when training heavier my sets often get short circuited for lack of better word. I don't know, but I would imagine that when it comes to strongman training you're as strong as your weakest link.

It will be really interesting to see how these changes show onstage in Miami Beach. Sounds like it's all good.
