Mad props and many thanks Canon Girl! It is nice to get the photos of the best female bodybuilders so we all get a feel for the pulse of modern bodybuilding and just where these competitions are going. Although I think judging must be a little bit more difficult than some people around here think it is, for the most part I think that the judges did a good job. I think that the North American show was truly a great one and finally that the lovely ladies of female bodybuilding, my "heroes" with the "total package" to include the details of muscularity, proportion, symmetry, stage presence and femininity are truly "gifts from god!"

No arguement here that both Sherry Smith & Isabelle Turell were the Beautiful Women in that lineup during the overall posedown for the North American title and an IFBB pro card. And the above photo is living proof of that.

I'm Glad that I was there to witness history in the making. Both of you Ladies are my Heroes period.:)

Isabelle's waist looks smaller than anyone up there! Any guesses as to why the judges chose Sherry over Isabelle? I thought they were looking for a more streamlined physique.

It had to have been really close. I'd guess Isabelle had Sherry beaten on a whole lot of levels including conditioning and she made quite the "total package" with a stunning look that includes stage presence with grace and elegance as well as the important details that express every modicum of "femininity" however intangible that may be at times? Sherry still has something like that going on for herself as well though, but had great lower body thickness with proportion and symmetry matching the upper body. She's got some muscle maturity and she's bigger. All things being equal Heavyweights are hard to beat when they stand tall and look very impressive. Her intangibles? Well Sherry's been at this for a while with a lot of great competitive efforts coming up just short. She's from Oklahoma with a solid contest prep team that has had many successes and on the judging panel they are all probably also subconsciously thinking: "it's her time now?" Isabelle is a phenomenal female force to be reckoned with on every level of bodybuilding and she can beat the best as evidenced by her 2003 Excalibur victory when she beat Angie Salvagno and Marika Johansson. Isabelle is headed for no lower than the top echelons of womens bodybuilding and indeed that day may very well come sooner than later?

I thought they were looking for a more streamlined physique.Hey Fbbhubby, I was at that contest and I've gotten the chance to see them both up live & up close as well as on the stage and to me they were about dead even when it comes to Muscle Separtion, Density, Conditioning & Symmetry.

The overall title could've gone either way but it was Sherry's night because she's been in the Game for a long time and she's paid her dues. As a matter of fact Overall everyone else in the Audience as well as the other competitors expressed the same thing and was very Happy with the outcome.

But that's not to take anything away from Isabelle because she's proven to be a force to be reckon with in the future whether it would be the Nationals, next year's North Americans or some other contest.

I make no bones about it that I'm a proud fan of both Women, plus they both looked Good and presented a package the way Women Bodybuilders supposed to be at contest time. The Bottom line is Everyone's Happy that things turned out the way they were. No complaints here, can't wait til next year's NAs.:)

September 20th, 2006, 12:43 PM
I was thinking the same thing. Isabelle hasn't had the experience of doing many contests and it may have come down to intangibles such as stage presence, posing transitions, etc. They both look great.

Are you certain of this? So, the other finalists were not "beautiful?" Or, do you really mean to say "Sherry Smith and Isabelle Turrell had the most impressive physiques in that line-up" ?

Maxt
September 20th, 2006, 01:38 PM
Carri's comments were indeed very interesting Hans, but Yes Echo, Sherry Smith and Isabelle Turell had the best physiques. However Michelle Brent, Debbie Bramwell, Lora Ottenad, Beverly DiRenzo, Michelle Neil and Anne Sheehan were also great. Great mids and even the one lightweight definitely belonged there with the rest of them. If I were to add to that I'd say those two (Sherry and Isabelle) were a few notches higher than everybody else but of course there were plenty of beautiful women with great physiques at that show. Almost all of them. By getting there in the first place they had to be champions. I only wish next year the Canadians can do it?

The show is over and we can't can't change anything and to the people it matters to they know how I feel. I will say this sorta odd that Isabelle was the only one to get 1's across the board and she didn't win.

Plus Echo you're better off at check out the whole thing of what I said instead of bits & pieces like Eddie does to understand the whole story because the whole contest itself was Excellent.

And as a matter of fact mostly all of the Women Competitors at the North Americans were Beautiful period.:)

Hey everybody! I just wanted to say thanks for being so supportive. As a lot of you know this has been a long (and sometimes painful) journey for me. This weekend was well worth it. I cannot describe to you, the feeling of being up on a stage with the quality of competitors (both in body and heart) and winning the show. I was honored to stand next to the great Laura Ottenaud in the heavyweight class and the very talented Isabelle Terrell in the overall (don't worry ya'll...her time is close). Props have to go out to Gary Udit for his tight organization. This show was a BLAST! Thanks to my trainer Jeremy Minihan for all the hard work (and friendship) and the rest of my "crue" (Carri, Chris, Shauntel, and Johnathan). And last but not least to the IFBB for giving me this opportunity (finally).

CBDetroit:

I present, again, your post in its entirety. My original caption took nothing out of context. This was the statement you made.

I am aware of your enthusiasm for these athletes. I am just suggesting some caution in your phraseology. I would also suggest that you re-consider your frequent inclusion of the word "sexy" to compliment these athletes. Although you did not use that word in this post, you have liberally used it in others. I know that you mean well, but bodybuilding is ostensibly a sport....at least I think it still is, maybe I'm wrong. But you should just be aware that there are certain boyfriends/husbands of female bodybuilders that bristle when "fans" use such superlatives about their mate. I will say no more.

On a separate note, I was not present at this contest and I have not seen enough pictures to make any comments about it, but I have taken note of Sherry Smith's performances over the years. I personally feel that Sherry Smith is an excellant representative of our sport and I am very happy for her, her family, and those that have supported her.

Sherry , i hope you see this soon. i was on the road to portland seeing my coaches and all the time was wondering what was going on out there.
i wasnt sure which show u were doing (NA's or Nationals) couldnt remember what u said at USAs. anyways, nothing was being posted for so many damn hours.. Well now,, I was very happy to hear about your victory.. Congradulations Sherry. I dont think anyone in this industry will walk away with a frown on their face with this.
I can relate with you about the journey to the top.. there is alot of pain, emotional times, a bit of anger or frusteration or even what i call a funk.. but its there even when your still striving, getting up everyday to do your foods for the day or week, morning or evening training, to posing, working , every day daily duties. We walk with something. many want to say they understand, how can they?
I leave most of this here for now. But i am hoping you compete next yr on the Pro stage. i be either there or glued to the damn computer to see whats happening like the rest of us muscle headz...
your an absolutely beautiful lady, body builder or not its just you as a person and you stand out..
keep shining and i see you in the nearest future Sherry

The overall title could've gone either way but it was Sherry's night because she's been in the Game for a long time and she's paid her dues.

I like most of your comments CB, but with this sentence did you mean:

Sherry won because she most likely got it all together (condition, presentation, charisma ... things one cannot sense from a picture), due to her years of experience in top level competitions?

or

Sherry and Isabelle were both OK, but Sherry took overall because she did try long enough, so lets give it to her on those basis?

Curious thats all

cheers

Maybe just maybe that had a little something to do with it and was a thought that might of resided in the subconscious of a few of the judges because she had done so well so many times before in the USA's and the Nationals and come up just short but you don't win shows by paying dues in previous shows, you have to be standing up there on stage and being the best there is on that given day. In a closely contested contest she was the best there was. I liked what I saw as far as what I can tell from photos and I like what I read from somebody who was there like Sherry's fellow Oklahoman IFBB Pro Carri Ledfford-Baldwin. She said Isabelle improved a lot from the prejudging to the nighttime show. No matter what though I am rooting for Isabelle in the Nationals because she rocks like just about any of the top amateurs contending for a Nationals title. She's ready for pro stages and Olympia lineups without any doubt!

Let me clarify something with regards to judging...

Each class is judged separately. Just because you get straight 1's does not mean you should win the overall.

For instance this is for pure example purposes only. Say class A has 10 competitors and 4 of them are really good. Class B has 10 but only 1 that stands head and shoulders above the rest. The scores may rally between the 4 girls in class A with each girl possibly getting 1st place votes. Class B the girl gets all 1's as she is being compared toeveryone in her class. Now put them in an overall...and its a clean slate and now Class A is being judged against Class B...all previous scores are thrown out and it starts with a level playing field.

BIGBROHi BigBrother and yes right in the top paragraph on how she put together (condition, presentation, charisma) would be another Good way to describe how it went down at the contest.

I know what you mean CBDetroit! The Overall, it was apparently between Isabelle and Sherry.

When your at a show and the competitors walk out, you have a panel of different individual "tastes" in FBBing. It only takes one to choose one athlete over the other, be it size, condition or mere presence and confidence. Varies.

JMO, Sherry has always had a great stage presence, posing transitions are flawless and here, she flowed from head to toe, as did Isabelle, but, there is only one winner, and as we know, it only takes one vote to decide which athlete receives her pro card.

Sherry has been a top 5 National level Heavyweight FBB for 6 years. Was it a gift? No. Sherry earned it, worked hard, and showed up "confident" and her presence was felt!

I'll admit at this seeing this contest live, this is the best that I've seen of the Ladies' conditions period. So Mesmerizing and at the Peak of perfection so far I LOVE what I see.:)

I don't think I said that as much as when most of the talk was about Sherrry vs. Isabelle.

Absolutely Chris and you know what? I have to say that Lora Ottenad is looking to be a very exceptional Heavyweight. I don't think I said that as much as when most of the talk was about Sherrry vs. Isabelle.I'll tell you Maxt that when both Lora & Sherry was side by side, it was so close. The same thing would've happened if that would've been Dr. Neil & Sherry or Beverly & Sherry because it was just that close in my opinion.

No doubt Maxt, that Sherry, Lora & the Ladies looked Beautiful that weekend.

With all of the hype now gone over to the Atlantic City pro as well as the Olympia Weekend, The North Amercians, besides the Arnold's is one of the Best Bodybuilding show to attend.

Also I found out the name of the Men's Super-Heavyweight & Overall Winner was Leo Ingram who's also a new IFBB Pro who's physique is right into Ronnie Coleman/Jay Cutler territory on the Men's side.

One of the Guys at the one of the booths had just about everyone laughing in the area where Andrea Gahan & Myself was at during the North Americans when he kept booing the Super-Heavyweight & Overall Champion saying it not fair, or he has a gut but in the end Homeboy was dissapointed when Leo had won and I told him not to feel bad, LOL. The whole situation was funny.

But I'll tell you Maxt, Andrea Gahan's physique was so Beautiful, Classy & Sexy that weekend and she will "Bring It" come the Nationals in November. Especially I Love how she's build up her body because it's up there with both Sherry Smith's & Heather Policky's physiques.:)
