I love sci-fi movies/tv.

Anybody seen this movie? I give it high marks. Here's what I wrote on the FTWebcam Forum:

The special FX were outstanding. The opening sequence where the tripod arrives is very memorable. Lots of cool scenes. Tom Cruise is (despite all the stuff in the public eye) a really good actor and he was good in this movie.

And of course there was some stuff that was kind of lame. But I didnt complain. It was just a move.

1.) Why were they buried under the ground? Why did they have to wait a million years to take over? Wasnt answerd in the movie, but I am guessing that they wanted some kind of plot device for the tripod to 'rise' out of the ground in the opening sequence instead of a meteor crash. That was ok with ,me because it worked pretty well.

2.) despite your religious convictions, God played an important role in the 1953 movie and it could have worked in this one (although it was briefly mentioned in the end narration) In the 1953 movie basically, the aliens were indestructable and Gene Barry goes to the church to pray with the others. That's when the aliens were killed by the disease. Tom Cruise didnt have to go to a church, but I think that it was a hopless situation and he could have turned to some kind of 'divine intervention' for help. It would have wrapped up the movie a little better.

3.) what was the purpose of Tim Robbins character? I thought he was going to be the 'lets kick some ass' guy and he didnt

Overall, I give the movie thumbs up.

Speaking of movies, I'm a big comic fan since I used to read them a lot and I thought Batman Begins was really well done from an f/x and story perspective. Only Katie Holmes was less than convincing for me...

oh yeah, they have that on IMAX here in Irvine. I'm going to check that out this weekend. What's on your Netflix for this weekend?

I am a huge movie fan~in fact I do "Official Heather Lee Movie Reviews" in my diary all the time! I also like War of the Worlds....and I am really not a huge Tom Cruise fan....

These are the last 3 movies I saw and what I had to say from my blog...

"....Well my Fourth of July was awesome....Friday we went to see War of the Worlds....What a cool movie!!! I am not a big Tom Cruise fan, but the movie itself was pretty entertaining.Good special effects and some tasteful gore, with a few really funny moments. He played his part well...It was a go-see movie, and I give it an Official Heather Lee Movie Rating of a B+. Not too shabby!......

...Monday, we went to go and see Land of the Dead. Now I am not a big fan of zombie movies, but I went into this with an open mind(after all, I have to get back to my movie reviews for you guys!!!) After seeing Dawn of the Dead last year, I had hope~I actually enjoyed that movie. This movie, however, did not live up to my great expectations. A little corney, a little gory, and stealing some of Dawn's ideas....It wasn't aweful like one of the movies I will review in another few paragraphs, but not thrilling. It takes home an Official Heather Lee Movie Rating of a C+. Zombie Movie Fans, you may be dissapointed...

Then over this past weekend I went to my favorite Mexican place down the Jersey Shore, went to another movie. Yes I am on a role people!!! But this one is a NO SEE!! Now I went into this with very high expectations because one of my favorite actors, Michael Chicklis, who plays Vic Macky on The Shield, plays The Thing....The Fantastic 4. It sucked. It was so campy and so cheesy....I was soo dissapointed with it. It got an Official Heather Lee Movie Rating of a D-...."A must not waste your money on this movie" movie"

I love the movie reviews - thanks Heather. The most recent film I saw was Heights, an indie flick about a photographer chick. It was OK. Buildup was good but the resolution left me wanting more.

Good special effects and some tasteful gore,

lol!! A zombie's mouth waters at the thought of some tastful gore! :D

I loved all the 'Dead' series of movies. But i didnt see the Dawn of the Dead remake or Land of the Dead as it was veto'd by my wife! Got to bump 'Dawn' up on my Netflix list!

Speaking of Netflix, i watched that Riddik move and that had some pretty good FX!

I really love zombie movies and the best one is one of the firsts : Night of The Living Dead from the same guy who did Land of the Dead but that was 40 years ago.
War of the worlds is a good movie but I was a bit disapointed because I was waiting for more. The beginning is great but I was less enthousiast with the rest of the movie.
The movie I have seen this year and that I liked the most was Sin City : a masterpiece.

War of the Worlds-
I enjoyed War of The Worlds and it might make my DVD collection someday. Long after I get the original though. There were parts I like and places where I just felt you could see Tom Cruise acting.
Yeah it was a definite "huh? Oh well, on with it." moment.
Religion played a part in the movie and in the H.G. Wells book. "god's littlest creatures." featuring in all.
3.) what was the purpose of Tim Robbins character? I thought he was going to be the 'lets kick some ass' guy and he didnt
He was an amalgum of two characters from the book. The Artilleryman who the lead meets once after the Martians first defeat the army and later as they hide in the sewers in London. And a preacher who after seeing the Martians vampiric tendancies while hiding in the cellar sees it as a sign from God that he must destroy them. This character was much more sympathetic in the first movie.
Land of the Dead-
I was disappointed to miss that one, maybe I can catch it at a theater that plays older movies. It's a follow-up to the first 3 real zombie movies Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead (my favorite) and Day of the Dead all by George Romero. There was a remake of Nihgt' with a woman in the lead directed by Tom Savini that was very good with a slightly different ending frm the original. Savini was one of the lead bikers and did the make-up in Dawn' and make-up agan in Day' and returned for a cameo in Land.'
I refused to see the remake because they did the zombies all wrong. They're dead they shouldn't be able to run. The whole horror of them was no matter how often you out run them they always catch up.
Other Movies-
I saw Sin City and Batman Begins and I really enjoyed them. Both captured their subjects perfectly. Sin City was exactly like the comics and looked so cool in the black and white even the over the top gruesomeness didn't detract.

Dakota Fanning was great in the film, I heard that Katie Holmes originally passed on the part. :-)
