I think this thread was in the original Industry Discussion board so I thought I would re-post it.

So what camera do you use?

I've been using a Nikon d50, but just ordered the new d80.

I'm looking forward to breaking it in and giving it a good testing!

I have a Pentax from the late 60's light meter is busted but other than that I can get good pics from it with a a little work. My Canon I can't turn on so not using it. That one had alot of auto features for no brains shooting. photography shound not be easy though. Not knowing if any of your pics will comeout until you develop them is always fun lol.

I just bought my husband Patrick a D200. That should keep him busy for a bit, eh?

With all the Minolta glass, flashes, etc. I had from film days, I went with the Maxxum 7D - unique in that respects around here. With SONY taking over the company, it's a bit more reassuring :p

Now if we didn't discombobulate our files before posting (guilty as charged), there'd be the EXIF data we can all peek at :)

Nikon D200

First David, now Larry went digital! WOW! LOL

JT, you're going to LOVE the high ISO performance of the D80. Coming from the D50 it'll blow you away.

I use, depending on the job at hand: Nikon D2H, D2X, F5, Fuji S2, and Mamiya 645 AFD with film and PhaseOne P25 backs.

I still have and occasionally use my Nikon FM, Pentax K1000, and Minolta X370 (my first "real" camera).

I know you guys are talking about professional cameras here, but for candid shots at shows James and I both bought a little Sony T-10, which we're both loving. I took the shots in the "buzz" article with that - perfect for taking pics at parties etc.

I went digital back in the 1980s when I went out and bought one of those Kodak Portable Photo CD 970 Players.

I also use on occasion a mamiya 645 Pro and a Mamiya RZ 67.

I'm definitely shooting with the oldest digital camera here - Canon 1D, baby.

Don't ask why I haven't updated my system yet.

(I do have the best camcorder, though :D)

Totally agree Hans. I've been thinking of getting something similar that is pocket size just b/c carrying around the full size isn't always convenient... and I know Gene loves to bust a move at thos after parties so a lighter camera is I'm sure very important to him! :D

I use a Konica Minolta Dimage Z5 for stuff like that now. Great camera!! I take it to the bar when I go out if I feel like taking pics. It also takes a hot shoe flash and has manual settings as well.

I'm with Tre, I use a 1D, although I use a 20D or 5D for backup and sometimes take a 1D Mark II if someone isn't using it on the same weekend. :)

See? One doesn't have to have the newest every time it comes out to get great images!

Hey, a lot of guys do! I was told by an unnamed photog a few months ago that if I wanted to shoot for publication I had to have the highest megapixel camera I could get. He was snooty about my then 5.1 mp camera. He shoots for some of our mags. But I Haven't noticed anything better about his, except photoshop skills. The camera he uses shoots no better. He even snubbed my D70s!! Said he hadn't seen much good out of those. Yeah, right. LOL

I'd say video tops them all. Can't beat a moving picture.

I recently bought a Sony HC3 camcorder - it records in 1920 x 1080i HDV format. Took it to a couple of shows and got some really excellent shots. Very happy with it. It may not be quite up with the super high quality 3CCD HD cameras used by HDPhysiques and Femflex et al - but it's infinately better than standard def camcorders. And it was so cheap - there's really no excuse for crummy 640 x 480 clips any more.

My only complaints are:
1) The anti shake processing is useless so you need a steady hand
2) Interlace sucks and creates a load of hassle - much prefer progressive scan
3) Auto focus and auto exposure can be a little unstable.
