Anyone ever use or do use one of these to extend your reach?

I haven't used one although I have used a 1.4x that Canon has. It seems to work OK, although of course the loss of the stops can be a bummer depending on the lens.

I had one for a 500 mm to make it 1000 worked fine for the most part but was a ****ty lens to start with.

Yeah I was thinking of using it to extend the range of a 70-200 2.8 lens. The converter drop the f-stop by 2.
DAMN lenses are expensive!!

I haven't used mine in ages. They're not supposed to work well with all the new fangled lenses coming out these days. I'd recommend moving closer to your subject over using a teleconverter. Besides, when I shoot with my 300/2.8 I'm between 100-150 feet from my subject. How much further do you want to be? Also, you probably won't get the depth of field advantages with a 2x on a 200 compared with a 400. Alternatively, go ahead and buy a big, fast lens... you'll never regret it!!

I'm thinking about getting into the spy business so I need a really big lense! :woot:

You gonna finance that?! :D

As I understand it, the more successful spies use a really tiny lens.
While I unfortunately can't finance a new big lens for you, I'll happily refer you to my good friends at Chase Manhattan.
