View Full Version : Turned Off by FBB's-Not I

I read Numenlad's statement that most people are turned off by FBB's and I was puzzled. I cannot see how most people would be turned off by female bodybuilders like Kris Murrell. I have been following bodybuilding for a long time. I think people are turned off by female bodybuilders that look like men to the extent that they come off like transvestites sure but like Ms. Guns does say when you do it right people aren't turned off. Then again how and when do you really know? I sure haven't been turned off by female bodybuilders unless in fact they did look like men to the extent that people thought they were transvestites and then yes indeed I was turned off. Now as for Numenlad's statement how was this statement validated by any objective statistics or scientific analysis or was it just an opinion being represented as fact?

It's true. Most people are turned off by female bodybuilders physiques. Even if they have a Cindy Crawford face.

Muscles for one thing... a lot of guys aren't comfortable when a woman has a lot of muscle. It's often associated with being a masculine trait.

The unanswered question is who the joke is on, K-Max or FBB's...or both. For example, there is an element of homoeroticism that exists in a segment of the "schmoe" populus that is attracted to masculinized females. So, the humor can be construed to be self-deprecating. Or, the humor comes at the expense of FBB's.
It's probably better not to drift into this territory, so that people are not left to misconstrue the "humor."

Still there really is not anything here remotely scientific or random to put it out as to whether men or women are turned on or turned off by female bodybuilders. Kudos to all but especially Isabelle and Ms. Guns for their insights. Since I am a kind of guy that goes around telling all kinds of people that I like womens bodybuilding (when done right of course) I get all ranges of opinions right back. I'll tell you that what I found to be the two most hostile groups of people to female bodybuilding were the fat out of shape women who really had slim hopes of ever being in shape and then the men who are very slender but like or adore really fat or obese women. Those two groups invariably did not like female bodybuilders as to my experiences which amount to anecdoetes. Howerver I have informally polled people for decades and what I have found were some decidedly mixed reactions but usually positive if it is toward a woman with very good taste and really takes care of her body enough so that indeed she could be considered a female bodybuilder.

Echo, dude, I know where you going and I'm telling you now, it's very flawed logic. Note, I said "Female Masculinity" NOT "Male Masculinity" NOR even Males for that matter.
And to answer your question, the joke is on neither. Thank you.

Your re-affirmation of the use of the phrase "Female Masculinity" in regard to female bodybuilders is duly noted. While you accuse me of "flawed logic," in regard to the possible intent behind your use of this phrase, the fact remains that "Female Masculinity" is a contradiction in terms. Please note:

So, tell us K-Max, what is it about female bodybuilders that you are trying to say? What's the joke? Please clue us all in.

If you say so, but I am certainly not a schmoe who has to look to muscular ladies to assuage psychosocial or sexual inadequacies. Of course, I am not accusing anyone on this forum of fitting this description, but if, perhaps, by some stretch of the imagination the "shoe" fits.....well, let's just say it is a "coincidence."

LOL at Echo for using big words to try and sound intelligent. :p
How about we put it this way......most guys are not sexually attracted to female bodybuilders.......but a few are. After all, that's how it is!!!! More guys prefer the playboy centerfold type.

differences is what make the world go round. Some men love fat women, really skinny women, big boobs, little boobs, feet! blonds red heads(like myself!) brunettes. personally you like what you like. no underlying phycho babble. i love shoudlers and abs on a man...it means...I LIKE SHOULDERS AND ABS ON A MAN!

i wouldnt say most guys are not attracted sexually ! i think most guy especally when the female is more muscular they tend to be very intimadated an dont know how to handle it ! but you know as well as i do most male bb'ers at least the ones i know have a great respect an attraction to female bb'ers !

There was also that one Sports Illustrated issue where soccer player Brandi Chainstain made the front cover. I think that was also a popular issue. She may not have been as muscular as a FBB, but, she certainly didn't look weak.

i'm with ya on that one mama, this debate is almost amusing...
any way, i do think people like what they like for what ever reasons, BUT, as Isabelle said, there are alot of 'closet fbb admirers' out there. fortunately my husband is totally attracted to my physique and has always liked fbb's. to each his own, i say. i don't get too wrapped up in the why, i have too many other things to do, like grow more muscle!!!! lol

Hey Maxt, I'm just now checking out this thread and I agree with what you, Isabelle Turell, Tammy P, Kim Ferrell and K-Max on what you all have said.
For one thing if a Guy gets involved with a FBB/Fitness Women, than he would have to be secure within himself to be seen with her whether it's workouts, dating or whatever.
Also he would have to be tolerant of her lifestyle because because other than her dayjob, if she's a competitive FBB/Fitness Woman that's training, dieting & Getting into shape for the upcoming contest season he would have to show some understanding & patience because that's an important part of her well being.
But like Bill Dobbins would say in his website, "Everyone loves kittens but not everyone likes cats".
Now when I've checked out other websites or Muscle Forums (Bodybuilding.com) most of the Guys say that they like Natural/Drug-Free FBBs, Fitness & Figure Women over the Hardcore FBBs because of the accusations of the folks over there of our Heroes on the "Juice" or "Gear".
Not to mention the negative after effects such as a deep masculine voice, unwanted facial Hair Growth, Adam's Apple.
But as for me whenever I get into conversations with folks locally within the Mainstream about FBBs outside of the local Bodybuilding Contests the results are mixed.
Some may like it or some maybe turned off by it but it seems as though Some Guys have a thing for the Fat/Obese Women and Some other Guys seem to like the Anorexic/Bullimic Waif look on a Woman.
As for me I'm proud to be a long time fan of Women Bodybuilders (including the Hardcore & Drug-Free kind) & Fitness Women especially from 8 weeks through the night of her contest when she's in Symmetrically Vascular Shredded/Ripped Contest shape, without sacrificing their Feminity then it's a Beautiful thing.
Give me a FBB/Fitness Woman over a Fat/Obese or Annorexic/Bullimic (Skinny) Woman anyday :)

Society hasn't evolved to the point yet where they can appreciate this sort of beauty on the larger scale. We will get there though, I believe.
I consider this community and others like it, to be on the forefront of moving beauty standards in the right direction. Most all of us here are a part of this grassroots movement.
My thought is that we should consider ourselves elite, both FBB's and fans of them alike :D
