Hi James and Gene! :)
I would like to ask you something. I had a photo-shooting once with a german female bodybuilder in a hotel. I remember all the people looking at us (of course) which was a strange feeling in some ways. Mostly an embarrassing moment. I could even feel the looks also at me ("Why is he taking pictures of that muscular girl?")
I can't explain why but a friend of mine also said he would not be capable of taking pics of a female bb in public - he would just be to embarrassed.
Don't you have that strange feeling too, sometimes? Strange looks? I remember watching The Andrea Trent-Video and there were a lot of people looking at you. Didn't they bother you at all?
May be a strange question but I wanted to ask. Would like to hear your opinion about that subject.

Actually one of the first things you have to do as a photographer is make your subjects feel at ease. To do that, you yourself have to be relaxed so it's important to figure out how to do that for yourself. It varies for different people.
Personally I don't like the limelight, but luckily when I'm shooting female physique athletes, I know it's them that everyone is looking at so that makes me feel more at ease. Who wants to look at the camera guy when there's an amazing unique person in front of them! :)

Novelist, I have done quite a few photo shoots outside. I am quite muscular. For the most part, I get very positive feedback from on lookers. In fact I feel a form of celebrity. Some people even take their own pics if they have cameras. It is a curiosity, but I love to come up with very creative poses and I believe this helps to show these people we are more then a mass of muscle!!!

yeah, i have to say I am uncomfortable shooting outside in public. I would prefer to work indoors in a private setting. Most of the time it is OK as I can usually find a private corner if i have to work outside (like at a hotel or show venue)

You are kidding right? Aren't you a personal trainer?

I am a trainer and no i'm not kidding.
When you feel eyes on you constantly it can make some people unconfortable (i'm a shy guy at times :o ).
If you ever go to a gym that's not hard core wearing something revealing, people tend to stare. I don't want to feel like i'm 'showing off' so to speak.
Know what i mean?

i guess i understand. i could see where someone that is shy would feel uncomfortable in a situation such as that.

t-bone, i much prefer people like you than the ones that find the need to always be showing off and the center of attention. Being humble is a good trait.

Gene, If you want to blend into the background, why do you have your hair different colors?
Don't take that question wrong - it's just something that I thought would draw attention to you if you prefer being low-key.

Hey Mark, I like low key people, and personality-wise I think that's how I am. But I also like to do things like color my hair so I don't have a problem with that either. I was just meaning more that I can appreciate people that keep it on the DL.

Hi Gene, I'm a huge Sf Giants fan, and just got back from a game
Say we should do a shoot in front of the park right smack when people are walking into the park!!!! Talk about feeling uncomfortable!!! Just kidding, but I do like the baseball theme for a future shoot for myself!!!

The two key considerations on shoooting in public are:
1) that the subject feel comfortable;
2) that you don't cause a car crash.

I'm with you, I like to have the sleeves. Maybe if I get enough muscle to rip right through them then I will lose the phobia, but thats not happened yet. Props to the ladies and guy bodybuilders who have the type of confidence to show it off, in public that is, I only show off in front of my mirror!
