Well there's talk of a Wonder Woman movie, possibly Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) might be going it. But the real question is who will play her? Knowing Hollywood they'll cast some skinny weak girl like Gwenneth Paltrow. Hmph. But if you were casting Wonder Woman...who would you cast in the role?

I know this was meant to be a "Fantasy" thread about what FBB or fitness women we would like, but given the realities of Hollywood, I think the best we could hope for is someone who is resonably fit or could be whipped into impressive shape relatively quickly.

The 2 names I see speculated about that interest me most are Jessica Biel Who got respectably buff for Blade: Trinty.
http://www.mtv.com/onair/diary/flipbooks/jessica_biel/images/diary_biel03.jpg http://www.mtv.com/movies/photos/b/blade_trinity_041129/i.jpg

And Soap Opera actress Nadia Bjorlin who, while I don't think has ever been too athletic looking, has a frame that could carry a little muscle with just 3 or 4 months of serious training. At least on the level of Ms. Beil, or say, Linda Hamilton from Terminator 2.

http://bodazey.com/MODELS/NADIA_B/nadiab-bo10.jpghttp://image.muzi.com/pfm_image/203018312636425.jpg

I'd prefer someone really fit by Hollywood standards, like Alexandra Paul or Tracy Scoggins, but they are both too old, so I think the aforementioned Ms. Beil or Ms. Bjorlin would suffice.

Good choices there! I've heard Jessica mentioned for the part before, I think it was in Wizard magazine. Can you believe they've been throwing around names like Sandra Bullock and like, Kim Basinger or something?

Here's one of my top choices. It's Jodi Lyn O'Keefe from TV's Nash Bridges, movies like Halloween: H20, She's All That, Whatever It Takes, etc.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b218/jedijays/Jodi_Lyn_O__Keefe.jpg

maybe Jennifer Love Hewitt would be a good choice if some good trainer could put a few pounds of muscle on her frame.

Thanks for posting those pics. My vote for Jessica Biel of those three ladies. But then again there's Kate Beckinsale, she was in teh Underworld flicks. I think she has the mature look in her face and she can be athletic too.

I think Jody May (pictured) below...or Sheila Bleck. Both at or over 5'7 inches, which is Wonder Woman's height, and brunette, and with faces that would seem to match what the character would look like in real life. (I'm not sure about Jody's "Texanese" drawl...hmm...just kidding JM! LOL)

I was actually 20 pages into a screenplay called "Wonder Woman" and had written it to imply the use of a woman bodybuilder. (It has action scenes that, if filmed, would be breath-taking, and it's set in San Francisco.)

But a set of continuing family tragedies forced me to jettison the work and focus on a few important things. My fear was (and still is) that Josh Wheldon will focus on making a "safe" and not innovative Wonder Woman that will fail at the box office and continue a string of negative runs for women super heroes on the screen.

(The one saving grace is that the flick seems to be in "development hell:" http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/2315.asp. Sandra Bullock turned down his first script, saying it was "campy" so that shows you how real the danger that Josh will turn out something of poor quality really is. So, if in the next 6 months, he's still not figured out what to do, I'll have a chance to finish the thing....I hope.)

Question: if websites owned by women bodybuilders can draw so many male eyeballs, why can't that translate to the movies? Especially with so many website tie-ins today.

Zennie, those are two of my choices for the role of Wonder Woman in another thread. With the boots, that would elevate their heights 2-3 inches. Wonder woman is listed in the comic books as 5'11 and another person i see who would have been perfect if she had the height would be Debbie Bramwell. Now for actual actresses out there, My choice was either Andrea Parker of the Pretender and Less than Perfect fame. And Jennifer Garner. Both have the look especially facially and the height to play the role. Andrea can mucle up a little though, but she has excellent poise because of her ballet training.

Nikki Fuller and Jennifer Kaylor can play Princess Diana's friend, the amazon Artemis. If you have a copy of the screenplay, maybe you can share it with the viewers. I know it won't be the finished product so no need to worry about secrecy. I'm sure it goes without saying that you have to research the character by going through the back issues to find out a great deal about her. If you do, try taking notes on the pre-crisis Wonder woman and the present version. I look forward to reading the script. Best of luck on the project.

Hi,

I didn't register it with the WGA and didn't plan to do it until I finished the entire 120 pages, though I may revise that plan at some point considering your request (thanks). I did register the treatment, however.

I'm litterally on call between business matters and life in Oakland, my Mom's new life as a widow in Atlanta, and my Dad fighting for his life in Chicago, and the needs of my half-sisters there. Travel.

So writing this script to completion has not been a high priority at all. Making money via SBS has been. When I started "Wonder Woman" it was as a spec script. The last spec script I wrote wound up at William-Morris until I bugged the heck out of the reader -- a bad move and lesson learned and applied to this go-round.

Zennie, I think you're refferring to JOSS WHEDON, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly & Serenity. He's very talented and I love some of the work he's done. It will be interesting to see what he does next, with things like Wonder Woman and X-Men being talked about and Marvel's Avi Arad has talked about many projects in-the-works including Ghost-Rider, Iron Man, Hulk 2, X-Men 3, Spider-Man 3 and other things.

Yes. It's ok to report I misspelled his name. I do agree he's done well with his TV work and other projects. But Wonder Woman's been a slave to change in how men view women in society, particularly strong women.

For a while from 1975 to 1995 or thereabouts, Wonder Woman was not drawn as "ripped." (By contrast, the orginal Wonder Woman was obviously muscular by the standards of then and now.)

That all changed in 1995, when John Byrne penned an obviously fit-model contest ready Diana Prince capable of grabbing a military tank full of bad guys and flipping it upside down in one motion, as she does in Wonder Woman 101, September '95.

The Wonder Woman who takes on The Justice League is even more muscular, and evokes images of the women bodybuilders we're fans of and think would be great for a live-action movie.

So, given that Whedon has approached Cameron Diaz and others who aren't really in the mold of the character, and has penned script that can't seem to hit the mark, I think fans of the character should be very concerned. He may be trying to re-create the TV-version of Wonder Woman (who was ok, but "watered down" to appease the tastes of the day) and not the "real" one.

...oh stoney. Forgot to mention that Whedon passed on X3 and Hulk 2 may not see the light of day.

Also, Wonder Woman is a DC Comics, not Marvel Comics property. Avi Arad has nothing to do with Wonder Woman; he works for Marvel Entertainment. DC's movie effort is not as well developed as Marvels, so there appears to be no "guru" to manage the development of Wonder Woman on DC Comics behalf, unlike Arad.

Zennie,

It has only been very recent that Marvel began making superior movies beginning with the Tobey Maguire version of Spider-Man. The previous movie projects of marvel were very forgettable and were B or c movies. Some were direct to video releases and very low budget.

Almost every recent Marvel movie has been true to form with the exception of the Fantastic Four, deviating from the comic book version a little bit. The incredible Hulk suffered from the script writing. DC comics has made excellent movies over the years with a few hiccups from superman III and IV because canon films took over. Nothing against the company but they seem to be marginal at best. Better known for b-movies and action flicks that were targetted for international release.

Looks like you have read some of the recent works of Wonder Woman. that's good but I suggest you go further and Read the second version of Wonder Woman which began in 1986 after the "crisis on infinite earths" which remade the entire dc universe. George Perez started a great deal of the series before other people took over. George Perez and John Byrne are two of the best Pencilers out there. But George Perez's Pencils and attention to detail and storytelling are legendary. Just check out a sample his work by googling him in the web. The first 12 or maybe 20 issues of the second edition Wonder Woman are available in trade paperback (reprinted and compiled)at local bookstores. Or just check your local Borders and barnes and Noble shops. Another good reference would be to visit local comic book specialty stores and talk up the guys there. This way you can formulate a script that is true to character and away from the campyness associated with superhero flicks.

I know Avi Arad is a Marvel man. I know WW is DC, but I was only talking about the Marvel projects cause Joss Whedon has been linked to them and is involved with "Astonishing X-Men".

Actually I'm trying to remember correctly, but I think Bryan Singer's X-Men came out before Spider-Man's movie and that is a good movie too! Daredevil gets mixed reviews, but I like it.

Hello!

Yes, but Perez didn't come along until 1987. I've got his work here at home. My script's treatment is done (not the 120 pages of dialog..I have 97 pages to go) and I'm not going to reveal the story except to say it's a mix of "Wonder Woman," "Traffic," "Crash," and "Sex In The City." It's very rooted in reality. But that written, thanks for the tips a whole bunch...maybe a group of us should just collaborate.

One of you mentioned Heather Pedigo. I don't know about other qualifications, but she definitely has what they call a "Hollywood smile"!
Which is another thing - does anyone have any idea how serious or light this movie would be (even at this early stage)? There have been a lot of complaints about super hero stories losing their sense of humor.

For purists or rather guys who normally read comic books, the concern about the humor is that they or we do not want it to be campy like the Batman of the 60's. More drama and realistic scenes built around the storylijne of the superhero. Sounds like an oxymoron? Not really, just look at the spiderman,Batman begins or even superman returns flick. Heck check out Daredevil and Elektra..... IMHO. Btw Heather Pedigo has that beauty queen look with a lot of muscles and size. Great personality. If she dyes her hair black then she can play Wonderwoman. They are the same height anyway.

I think Nadia Bjorlin would definitely be a good choice to be cast as Wonder Woman. I met her once at the Mandalay Bay and really...she was just gorgeous. She's one of those women who look even better in person. I would think a few months in the gym would make her a great choice. She just resumed her role on Days of our Lives, so she may not have been picked.

My personal nominee to be Wonder Woman (and She-Hulk, for that matter, if they get around to making THAT movie) would be Natalie Rae Ariel, a NPC figure competitor out of Chicago. Don't know about her acting ability, but as far as "the look" goes, I think she's got a great smile and a marvelous physique, and would give everyone mentioned thus far a serious run for their money in that regard.

Oh, and in case no one knew, Joss Whedon has withdrawn from the Wonder Woman project over "creative differences."

I don't know anything new about 'the Wonder Woman movie', but there is a movie that will going into production next year called 'Justice League of America', featuring various superheroes - including Wonder Woman.

The part of Wonder Woman has gone to an Australian model called Megan Gale. She's probably not the type that would have gotten the vote on this board, but she good to look at nonetheless.

Assuming that she can deliver a line she's a great choice, actually. But you're right about her not being the choice from this board. ;)

I was just checking out the imdb page on the pre-production and the movie might even go straight to DVD. The cast is huge with both heroes and villains and all the casting confirmations and rumors have been B and C listers so far. No box office star power that I can detect. But it's not out until 2010 so anything can happen.
