Thanks to Lennart Bergstrom (http://www.lennartbergstrom.dk/), a Danish photographer who I've known the past two years. This is a shot from the recent Universe held in England.

And one of my favorite things is how they do the posedown for figure/bodyfitness at the Universe - much more exciting than the non-posedown we have in the IFBB/NPC.

Hi Gene
Great photos.

PS - just a warning: When I suggested on these boards that the current figure class should be replaced with a body fitness class like the one at the Universe I was flamed to a crisp by both the FBB and figure supporters here.

Please read post #16 and #17 and the reply from Mr. Echo under the 'exposure doesn't pay the bills" thread. Mr. Echos reply was echoed by several blistering PMs from others on this board, both from FBBs and their supporters who felt such a class would undercut the hard core element of the sport and from fitness chicks who felt it was an abomination that they would be forced to flex on stage.

In the Nabba Figure class, competitors need to be much leaner than the Ifbb figure competitors... Unfortunatly
But the advantage is that we can show our shape & condition individualy, by doing a routine & 5 different compulsory poses during the comparaison, which IMO is more interesting than just doing the quarter turns(we do them too).
Thanks Genex for posting the pics :)

While the extra level of conditioning is arduous, the look that the NABBA figure competitors is able to achieve is especially arresting.
Take a competitor who's muscle mass is about on par with what's expected of figure contestants. Some of these women are able to carve out impressive definition in individual muscle groups that rivals what's present on a bodybuilding stage. If a woman is able to develop split biceps; or delineated glutes; or deeply striated, well separated delt heads; or deep-cut, vascular abdominals -- why shouldn't she be able to show them off?

Hi Gene
You are killing me with these photos :D
The ultimate irony about figure is that the woman ,as pointed out on this thread, often have fantastic muscle definition and shape yet have to spend all of their time on stage hiding it. I know one figure competitor who took muscle relaxants before the show so her muscles would not show so much if she forgot to relax between quarter turns.

Heyyy Jason, I for one would LOVE to do figure if they could do posing / dance-type routines and pose downs like these beautiful women ! How much BETTER for all to make figure more of a competitive SPORT, and display more than just a "pageant walk" across the stage :D

Hi Herculizaah
I for one would love to see you in one of these contests. You have the perfect physique for it. Maybe you can suggest it to the powers that be in the natural federations. Perhaps they will be more receptive than the IFBB and NPC.

Hmmm...The possible future of women's figure/bodybuilding ? A combination of shredded, sexy, photogenic and more muscular athletes dance/posing (not tumbling) in their routines, doing standardized comparison poses, then sort of dance/posing down against each other in the finals ?? How very marketable :) Maaaaybe sponsors would flock back to the more muscular women's corner if the magazine-buying public (men AND women) liked what they saw ! Just a thought.....( MY definition of "more muscular" is 'bout halfway between an IFBB figure competitor and IFBB Olympia competitor...not a 20% rule, but a 40% rule.. :D )

Hi Herculizaah
With you up on stage dancing/posing down it would definitely be marketable!
A class with the muscularity half way between FBB and figure is what the sport needs. It would not eliminate FBB but open up the competition to women who do not want to go to the extremes of hard core FBB but still want to develop and display their muscles to the fullest within the parameters of the class. I would certainly dig watching it (unlike figure which independent of how fantastic some of the girls look is an utter snooze) and I am sure many other men and women would too.

OK I am gonna have to jump in here. There is not a thing wrong with women with huge muscles. No matter how much the nay sayers say, women bodybuilders with extreme muscle are here to stay!!! We don't need new federations or new events, we need to all better support female bodybuilders and and appreciate them with their beautiful large muscles!

October 22nd, 2005, 05:05 PM
Unfortunately the really big hard-core females are NOT making money...and they live like hermits, SteelWill. It is hard to be regarded by mainstream society as some sort of freak, and due to all the media on steroids these last few years...well even the layperson is not fooled. I have known some very attractive women who went too far and in the end, were not so happy...no sponsorships, no magazine coverage, no advertisements featuring them, and no sportswear contracts...women's bodybuilding as we knew it, is dead. Something has to change. That is only my opinion... I am natural, and in the medical field, so it is of course slanted.

I can't tumble to save my life !! I can dance, and I can pose my butt off :p ...BUT! I cannot do backflips, no-handed cartwheels into splits, flying leaps into somersaults, and jack-knife my body into the air whilst balancing on one fingertip...besides, I am one of the "more-muscular"sort ;) and would wind up in the bottom of the fitness call-outs. I just saw the Universe photos with their figure/posing, and thought EUREKA !! ...And they're very (but not too) muscular :D

Hi All
I think more people should listen to herculizaah on this one. In my experience her opinion is shared by the majority of figure and natural BB competitors and even some hardcore FBBs. However most do not have the courage to speak out about it. Having a class like this one does not preclude having a hard core FBB class and if anything eliminates the controversy about 20% etc, by giving competitors the option of what class they want to compete in.

concrete calfs,
the figure girls from certain feds are harder than a lot of physique girls and some are more musclular too.
as im scottish and competed in the nabba brits, i was usually the hardest and most ripped on stage in the figure class yet i was marked down for this, they say i was too ripped or a little too muscular but yet when we get to the world or the uni level we are over shadowed by the international girls who are ripped beyond comprehention and also very muscular. so why is the musclular girls discouraged from dieting hard and training hard to compete with the rest of the world? some of the figure girls i have seen have been scary ripped and yet our brits judges want us to have a smoother appearance and no visible striations as per handbook yet they dont follow these at major shows. :stupid:
