FBBs - why did you take up bodybuilding?

I know everyone has different stories as to what first prompted their interest in bodybuilding and what then made them decide to take it up. For women, it's a much bigger and bolder leap - you have to go against so much of conventional thinking and attitudes to women.

I was just wondering what made some of the women on this board start lifting with an eye to competing?

I started lifting in 1980 after seeing "Conan the Barbarian"...and began my love affair with bodybuilding, and (unrequited) from afar... Arnold !

I started when one of my moms friends started bodybuilding when i was about 10years old. She then started doing shows and did well. She was a role model for me. I would hang out with her and she would tell me that when i was old enough to start bodybuilding she would give me all the advise i needed!! I started working out at the age of 14. The cool thing is is that i still keep in contact with her and see her about twice a year!! She may not compete anymore but she still has words of wisdom for me!!

You're right Harry, everyone's story is different. That's one of the things that always interests me about fbbers as well, and one of the reasons I like writing profiles of fbbers. If you check out the profiles section of the site, you'll find a lot of stories about how women got into bbing.
