When you think that we have been through enough screw overs, blink and it has been done again. The NY pro show will only have one class for the ladies!!
30 plus girls clumped on stage!! and I'll really faint if they decide to have an eliminaton to 15 like the NPC. Will this happen to the other pro shows and the Olympia
For Elena since you are involved in shows other then competing, do you know the reasoning Bev and Steve are dong this?? Or anybody else out there??? :(

I have not heard anything. My only speculation is that even though they state a lineup of 30 women, i don't think there will actually be that many competing...as some drop out etc. Perhaps the classes would have been to small. I do not know. But I am sure they have a reason behind it. It could be that they are trying to go back to ONE Ms O so they have to start it at this level...
I will do some inquiring...see what I can find out >:)

Thanks for the heads-up Michelle - I hadn't heard anything about this. It would be odd if the IFBB was trying to go back to having just one weight class for pro shows - as far as I was aware, the introduction of weight classes was considered a success.

Now it's back to 2. I just heard Weinberger received too many complaints. My beef about the thing was that he was going to do it only 5 wks before the show. so now if there will be change it will probably happen in the off season.

This is interesting... I have heard there are only 7 or 8 confirmed competitors? Michelle, where did you get that original list from? Do you know for sure that all of those women are competing? I know for sure that Nancy Lewis isn't doing the show and she's on the list, as well as Kim Harris from what i've been told... (not 100% on kim though).
I'm curious to see a REAL list. Seeing as there is a fine for those that back out w/o a medical excuse, why aren't we seeing a definite list that is fact from Bev/Steve?
Amanda
And... btw, I think even if it was a smaller show and they did 1 weight class... it will bring us back to REAL BBING. They will have to decide on the BEST physique. Not purely SIZE, but best overall EVERYTHING. IMO of course...

The list i saw was posted on http://www.getbig.com/news/contests/2005newyorkmay21.htm I think we'll see the REAL list either just before the show(if at all?) or when we actually attend the show! Some of the ladies that told me they were prepping for the NY show are Jeannie Paparone, Rosemary Jennings-Cheeseman, Lisa Aukland, Colette Nelson, Heather Foster. Some of the other ladies listed as competing DIDN'T know they were listed as competing when i asked them. Maybe that list was just for "hype"?? 45 guys listed seems to be a bit of a stretch too!!

I don't know about the other Euros, but you can scratch Marja L. off that list of competitors.

One class is plenty when there are less than 15 entries, but ultimately, the full-scale switch back to a single class is the right thing to do, given the IFBB's current 'direction' for women's pro bodybuilding.
But please don't ask me to define exactly what it is they're hoping to achieve, because other than downsizing the biggest competitors, I don't think they (the IFBB) have any clear direction for what they want to do.

Tre, I always liked the one class, yes, the two helped the lighter women, I only hope they don't feel they need to "play catch-up" . But I think with the 20% thing, that should work in the lighter girlls favor?? Heck, I don't know anymore!!  I just say to all the women get in your best shape, you know there still won't be much money in it, have fun and let the fans slather all over you after!!! :p ;)

Michelle, it's always been extremely hard for you women to know how to prepare to compete, but now I'd put that in the 'pretty much impossible' category at the pro level. I'm saying that before the NY show even happens, but I just have a sneaking suspicion that this show could provide the first real indication that things-are-a-changin'.
Back in the day, they wanted two classes (or three) in order to help keep some of the smaller women in the sport. Of the 50 or so American and Canadian women who turned pro in the past decade, how many are still competing? How many did only one or two pro shows? How many have never competed at all as pros? When you look at the numbers, moving to multiple classes never actually helped things at all.
I know there are not many incentives for a woman to compete as a pro, but they need to take an active role in finding a solution for that. I think there's a problem when a person's member-based website is paying them more than they'd earn if they won every single show in a given year. In some respects, though, at least things are a little better now that that website revenue is available to them, because now it's actually possible to get more out of bodybuilding than you spend to compete. That won't be true for everyone, of course, but if a woman knows how to 'work it', she can really tap into her fan base for true $upport.

E. Seiple...I am sorry I missed your position! It must have been too honest. Maybe I will meet you one day and you will whisper it to me in confidence:) I respect your decision.
