Elena has the most beautiful personality out there, even in this blog she sounds as gracious as possible when you can tell there is clearly some frustration there. Elena should have been pro a long time ago, to hell with the idiot judges. Hopefully she continues to be out there in the fbb community even if she is not competing. Hey Elena, your sphinx's Ms Olympia and that is worth more than any award or grand prize money. LOL

I think many people spotted Elena some time ago as someone who could do very, very well as a pro. I think her physique still merits that enthusiasm. It seems to me that she's been in the wrong place at the wrong time in terms of judging decisions. She's been hard when they wanted softer and vice versa.
It would a great shame not to see Elena fulfil her undoubted potential. Perhaps in the new year, when the disappointment is not so great, she might think again.
If she has done with competing, then I respect that decision and wish her the very best. She has determination and intelligence that would be assets in any endeavour.

Her future could be anything. Doesn't mean she is not going to compete anymore. Starting a thread that says she is like starting a bad rumor.
Not good.

She won't stop too much HEART!!!!I don't know her but this sure seems true! I have seen some of her posts on another board and read her journal today. She LOVES this so she's not giving up. She has never placed out of the Top 3 in her National appearances. She was her best @ the USAs. I just hope that she will continue to bring a physique to the stage that makes her happy.

I truly hope she's just taking a mental and physical break. I'm a huge fan. In the end, I just hope she chooses whatever will make her happy :)

Elena is a total class act and has consistently brought one of the top amateur physiques on stage over a 5 year period. The physique she brought on stage at the USA this year was one of the all time best in amateur FBB history bar none. I hope the IFBB recognizes her accomplishments and the positive image she presents for the sport and gives her pro status.

-The fact that shes been dieting for 1000 months strait is a testament to haw much heart she has. Just like someone said- she was at the USA's big and hard, and they wanted smaller and more streamlined, and when she came in more streamlined, they wanted someone harder

Elena looking like she did at the USA would have won the Nationals

We should all give her all our support and Ive got a sneaky feeling well see her real soon as a pro- That is to much talent and heart to quit

I hope Elena keeps competing. She'll get her pro card sooner or later, and she'll make a very fine pro. This year must have been rather frustrating, but I get the feeling she will be back next year; I hope so anyway.

Whatever she decides I will be happy for her, but my selfish wish is that she competes still since she is a great bodybuilder and inspires many others as well as representing fBBs with class!

Elena came up just short at the USAs. I thought she looked perfect, but 'they' saw someone else as being just slightly better in Vegas. Fair enough.
But I was surprised that there was any change to the program whatsoever. You were perfect in July - why deviate from that? It wasn't my call, of course, but it did catch me off-guard.
That being said, I hope she does indeed turn pro this off-season, but takes some real time off in 2006 to give her body a much needed and well-deserved rest.

I think Elena could pull it out in the next year.. she should have her pro card by now... I have to ask though, what's the big deal? She can remain a pillar in the sport even in the amateur ranks. She is more well known than many pro's. I have to say that being a pro isn't all its cracked up to be and I think Elena is looking better than ever and should reconsider why she competes... I never competed "for the pro card"... I competed to win and won quick... the pro ranks aren't much fun to tell you the truth. Elena has stellar proportion and symmytry... I hope she doesn't quit.

pretty honest and insightful statement Sarah. I agree that the difference between pro and amateur is not that much for the women other than a trophy v. the possibility of a couple thousand dollars. I would agree that we all must evaluate at some point what drove us to bodybuilding. For Tang and I it was just to look like those great physiques on stage. We started for us and to have fun. I do not know Elena personally but I agree that she is a very popular girl and sometimes being respected and liked is more valuable and desired than the procard. I hope she stays in the game, because she is an inspiration to many competitors.
Just my two pennies.

I got the same impression, her never saying exactly that she is quitting anything. Simplest thing is for someone to email her and just ask instead of speculating.

She can remain a pillar in the sport which is beneficial to us fans but what about her achieving her dream which is to someday become Mrs Olympia? After all the years she put in the sport, conforming to what the judges want then changing to what us fans want (the super thick muscles), it is only right that she should be rewarded. You look lovely by the way Sarah, didn't you and Amanda D have a war of words at one point?
SarahDunlap
November 30th, 2005, 10:07 PM
war of words? I am tired of the sell-out scene... and talking out of my ass is not my style, so I will leave that subject alone.. I tried to be civil, and even cool... congratualted her on her win, and all she can do is criticize... because she is too weak to admit anyone elses strengths.

I don't know if Elena is completely done for good but I seriously doubt you'll see her on stage at all next year. She just wants to do something different like powerlifting or strongwoman. I don't know if Elena has ever said she wanted to be Ms O but I know being a Pro is something that she wanted. She is tired and after a year or so off she may come back to the stage. In the mean time I'm sure she'll continue training and judging like she's always done and remain a big part of bodybuilding (just in a different way).

Well, I certainly hope she comes back. She has proven to be a consistent and formidable competitor that very easily could have been a pro already. I think she brings a physique to the stage that is pro caliber right now, and I hope she keeps bringing it. :sprite10:

From what I understood Gene was saying on another thread, any nationally competing amateur can petition the IFBB for pro status. Usually you have to win a national weight category, but it's not unheard of for a runner-up to be brought up to pro level.
Didn't Christine Roth get such a pass card to pro status a couple of years ago after coming 2nd at the Canadian Nationals? And if Elena were to petition the IFBB for pro status, would you bet against her getting it? The justification for the Roth situation as I remember it was that she possessed a physique of pro quality. That criteria certainly describes Elena.

Interesting news Harry on Christine Roth....I did not know that was how she got her pro card. Makes me wonder why more people haven't pursued this way of getting an IFBB pro card.

December 1st, 2005, 10:25 AM
Actually in Christine's case she did place second but the Canadian federation themselves gave her the opportunity to petition (and thus, an endorsement) for her pro status, which was the same case as this year for Colette Guimond.

Canada does things differently. I know for the men they give the Overall winner a Pro card then they give another one to the 2nd best physique of the day which the judges pick. So you don't even have to win your class to get a card. I personally don't agree with this. I also don't think Elena would accept a card that was given to her. She would want to earn it by winning it. That's the only way you should be able to get one.

As someone very close to the situation, let me clarify this for the readers. Elena has officially retired from competitive bodybuilding. At some point one has to take into consideration the future and their health, and truly decide whether or not the wear and tear and sometimes irreversible damage done to the body is all worth a trophy and a pro card. There is more to life than bodybuilding, and chasing something that won't get you any further along in life than when you began. Let's face it, five and ten years from now, how many people are going to remember the top 3 finishers in all classes at last year's Nationals? Probably not one...with the exception of the super schmoes. The point it this: She had an amazing run in this sport, but it's time to move on and think about her future. Elena bowed out gracefully, and showed once again why she is so respected in this sport. Class, integrity, and leaving this sport with your dignity in tact says a hell of a lot more about a person than a piece of paper that says you're a pro bb ever will.
I'm not saying that she will NEVER compete again, but if and when it happens, it will be more than a couple years from now.

I go to her site all the time and check out her journal entries. I think she had a hard time with the USA placing and got really burnt out after the Nats. She is so freekin cool and I really wish she would've gotten her card. Why didn't she go the route of the North Americans to get her Pro Card? This **** is in her blood- She just needs a break and she needs to know that she has a ****load of fans that will support her any way she chooses. I wanna see her win
