I just want to thank Melissa for being so OPEN AND HONEST AND UP FRONT about her height and weight. I have been very saddened and not motivated anymore to compete because I feel like I am too big...well, the reason for that is because I truly believe that ALOT of competitors out there, for whatever reason, lie about their weight! I myself weigh an absolute TON, and I am 5'6", and I also have alot of muscle on me...Thank you Melissa for making me feel like I have a chance in the world of Fitness, I wish more competitors were as honest as you! I am just surprised that competitors have not gotten 'over' the scale weight hang-up...I am more concerned with bodyfat and how I look than scale weight...If I am lean and cut-up and look awesome, who the hell cares how much I weigh???

Yeah, I wouldn't sweat it about the weight. IMO girls are sexier in the offseason, being shredded is awesome but I don't think you have to be shredded to look great! :D :D
Do you have any pics GUEST7?? :)

awww...thanks guest7! but you don't have to thank me for anything. i wouldn't think any of the competitors would be hung up on their weight...it's only a number. heck, i don't really care how much i weigh throughout the year. as long as i'm happy and can pull it halfway together before i get on stage....lol! :p
thanks....and keep training!

And of course this all serves to support the fact that the weight is not really important. It's more the composition of that weight and how it's carried. For example I weigh 170 and I am sure that Melissa's 170 looks way better than mine!
;)
Seriously though, I really wish that weight and the actual #s weren't such a big to-do for women. Sucks about our culture that it's overemphasized...

Well, I compete in Figure and I would say that 90% of those girls flat out LIE about their weight b/c alot of the Figure girls nowadays have some quality muscle on them...I am 174 lbs. right now and granted, I am VERY off-season, but shoot, I am not THAT humongous and yet I do weigh alot, because I do have quality muscle on my body...my comp. weight is between 135-140, so it's very discouraging when these girls say that at my height of 5'6", they are weighing 135 off-season and like 120 comp weight, whatever!!!!----------give me a big break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think female bb's are clearly less inclined to worry about scale weight, but I did want to thank you cuz you gave me HOPE! Seriously, I thought I was just 'TOO BIG' to compete in Figure and now I realize that is not the case at all.......by the way, you have a PHENOMENAL physique! I really admire someone like you who has great muscle size, symmetry, yet you still look 100% female, lol, just proving that it CAN BE DONE!!!!!

Exactly, G: It is sad to me that in the Fitness industry, of ALL places, you STILL have women who are worried about numbers...it's maddening!!!!
Women need to realize that MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT, why don't these competitors know that or choose to acknowledge it at all??? I personally don't care about scale weight, and the only time I started to not care about it was when I started to weight train and compete...now, I am PROUD to be 'heavy', lol, as long as it looks good!

Hey Guest, I agree. No need to worry about the weight. Probably there is a fashion for those fitness competitors or it sounds better for their own image if they say they are 135 off season and 120 on stage.
Currently I reach to 158-160 contest shape and I was 193 this off season. Hope to get over 200 next bulking phase. I see no reason to be ashamed or depresed about this. It is true I see no separation on my legs or abs popping out, but I am so strong and I feel so full of energy.
I suppose the girls who lie about their weight are tributary to the contemporary image of the slim girl, even the fitness girls, they want to stand out as being gracious and feminine all the time and considered like this by everybody. They forget they can be so feminine even if they put on muscles and fat alltogether. Just do what you feel like, the most important thing is the way you look on the day of the contest. If you think you can pack up more musles by also adding more fat, just go for it.
I am happy you brought up this issue. Good luck!

i really appreciate that, guest7...thank you. :D there are some things some of the girls are doing nowdays just to win that i just won't do....even if it means i never win a show or turn pro. :( don't get me wrong, i dream of being a top-level pro bb, but i will not ruin myself for a trophy. it's just not worth it in the end..ya know?
you're right though...of course you're not too big. weight is just a number. measurements are just numbers. it's what you see in the mirror that really matters. ;)
good luck, and lets see some pics! :)
