I'm sure this has been discussed.. But I was going back through the line up for the 2005 Ms. Olympia and I am totally perplexed! This woman has got to be totally hating the IFBB.. I'm not saying the other girls didn't look good but as far as I can see Marja is one of the most genetically gifted women in the sport. Hard, defined, symetrical and a super sexy face to boot.. Her placing was one of the most dissappointing I have seen in many years.. And I have seen quite a few.. This one takes the cake.. This woman did not deserve that.. She should have been no less than top 5.. As far as I'm concern she could have won and It wouldn't have even surprized me.. Even though I dig on Yaxien..

Well, based on what the criteria is currently.. If you look at what they (quote, unquote) are judging on.. Marja is perfect.. Go to one of these sites that list her measurements.. Her symmetry is beyond picture perfect.. The symmetry portion of the judging is supposed to be a big part of the points.. Her skin is perfect.. She has extremely excellent muscle belly's, small wrists and waist.. She looks very muscular and hard but only because of her muscle belly's.. She is actually not that big of a girl..
I have to say that she is the optimity of what the current judging standard is supposedly looking for..
As far as too muscular.. ????? This is silly.. The sport is called "body-building" not "body-shrinking".. This has got to be the most ridiculious thing the IFBB and the NPC have tried to sell to the athletes in many years.. And they have been selling a lot of bull**** over the years.. Come on people.. Too muscular??? lol!!!
I can see if her body was out of balance but her symmetry is picture perfect and it shouldn't matter if she comes in at 250 lbs or 140 lbs if the symmetry is there.. Really...

Helle Nielsen is another example.. This girl has some rough waters ahead of her in the IFBB.. Her physique improves every year but my guess is they are going to keep handing her the bone over and over.. It's to bad because she has the potential to surpass Kim (4 time Ms. O)... So does Marja. Oh yeah, lets not forget about Gina Davis and Annie Reviccio.. These girls are big and have symmetry up the ying yang.. But they will get penalized for being what they are.. Bodybuilders.. I can't believe it..

The process of developing the musculature of the body through specific types of diet and physical exercise, such as weightlifting, especially for competitive exhibition.

These girls are not trying to be fitness or figure girls.. Or they are not trying to win a beauty pagent like Miss America or the like.. They are bodybuilders.. And as such they should be judged as bodybuilders..
This whole thing about too muscular and femininity is a total contradiction to what bodybuilding is all about.. Being feminine is a subjective term.. Some guys like blondes, some like brunettes or redheads.. Some like em tall some like em small.. I have a friend back here where I live that's a tubby chaser... He won't date anything but fat chicks.. To him big heavy set women are the ultimate females.. So why all this hogg-wash about the muscularity and the boguss 20% rule when it comes to the bodybuilding women?

Anyways, Marja is by definition one of the best bodybuilders alive today.. The 14th place is heart breaking to say the least.. Especially when you consider she fills the total bill of what the judging criteria mandates..

This whole thing of passing off groveling, weak answers to the athletes for their poor placings is and insult to the athletes. They told Helle Nielsen one year the reason she didn't place better is because she hasn't been around long enough.. I'm like.. WTF?? What the hell is that supposed to mean?? I thought there was judging criteria? What does how long you've been around have to do with anything? You either are the package or your not.. This is part of the whole issue I was talking about on the thread from a few months ago concerning the letter to Jim Manion.. Echo has touched on some serious motives from the IFBB and the NPC in his thread about the political repercussions of the Arnold Classic..
This my friends simply won't do.. This is so, so, so wrong!! Athletes do not deserve this.. Marja was simply disrespected at the Olympia.. I wish there was something that could be done about this kind of boguss treatment. Now I know that every athlete that doesn't place where they want to place always complains about how they didn't get a fair shake and such.. Thats normal.. But in Marja's case there was obvious disreguard and disrespect for her physique.. This is part of the whole issue I was talking about on the thread from a few months ago concerning the letter to Jim Manion.. Echo has touched on some serious motives from the IFBB and the NPC in his thread about the political repercussions of the Arnold Classic..
This my friends simply won't do.. This is so, so, so wrong!! Athletes do not deserve this.. Marja was simply disrespected at the Olympia.. I wish there was something that could be done about this kind of boguss treatment. Now I know that every athlete that doesn't place where they want to place always complains about how they didn't get a fair shake and such.. Thats normal.. But in Marja's case there was obvious disreguard and disrespect for her physique.. I challenge anyone to ask any of the top athletes if they themselves do not agree with what I'm saying about Marja's placing in the 2005 Olympia.. WELL,MARJA INDEED DESERVES TO HALLOWEDLY BESTOWED SUCH RESOUNDING PRAISE,,VISUALLY AS WELL AS WITHIN SPOKENED WORDS OF REVERENCE YOWARDS HER!!!!!! NOT saying you need to stop. I just can't read your posts. I'm a guy who expresses himself with bold resond and affirmation of what i give written testimonial too as i often do when i speak!!!! The all caps are a sort of extension of what in my personality dains to reveal itself in the expression of that side of my personality,and i greatly dislike changing my personality in the slittest for anyone,, anywhere,,anytime,,no matter who they are,,but I'll try and keep what was written by others in mind!!!! I am a stubborn Taurus,very set in my ways and do not yield easily their confort for me WITHOUT a DAMNED good compelling reason that i do so,,but there have been several requests over time that i indeed stop using all caps when writing things to or about the divas,,the mere fact that someone asks,isn't a compelling reason that i indeed consider such a request regardiing my use of all caps in my mails and posts,being that i consider it an expression of a part of my personality,, stubborn as it is in most cases,but upon here i shall indeed give it some serious honest thought!!!! The judges who put Marja 14th at the Ms O made fools of themselves.
IMHO she had the best physique in the Ms O 2004 and 2005, though her posing routine in 05 was too laid back,
(like Yaxeni's at the 06 Ms I.)

Hi all... I had to post when I saw this thread. I work out at the same gym as Marja and see her every week lifting weights. Her workouts are intense!

When it comes to her "real size", what you have been discussing here, she's very short and seems almost tiny. But then when you look at her thighs in those tights.. oh wow! She's an amazingly warm and sympathic person and a very humble athlete. She's quite shy but I think it makes her cute and more approachable (I think many FBB are a bit scary for newbies etc. to approach). Personally I think she could promote herself much more, she definitely deserves more respect amongst the sport. Finnish people are often like that: we're afraid people will think we're conceited and arrogant if we talk about our achievements. It's easier to just be quiet and hope someone will notice our accomplishments.

I hope, wholeheartedly, that this year she will show how the Finnish SISU works! Sisu means perseverance, guts and hard work. :sprite10: I'm sure you'll hear about Marja soon again...

I was quite curious why the judges decided to rob Marja and insult her with a 14th place finish. I guess they cannot make up their minds at all as to what they want for it changes all the freaking time. One year they want size, a month later they want definition, the next month they want LESS definition or crap like that.

Unfortunately this crap happens all the time when the winner is decided purely on the whims of judges. People are going to get screwed and in this sport that goes double for the women because even if you become Miss Olympia, you still don't make as much money or get as much prestige as Mr. Olympia.

Hey you guys I want you all to know that I am right there with you guys about being one of Marja Lehtonen's greatest fans. I love to see the pictures of her that everybody posts. I don't think she ever takes a bad one. She always seems to be in great shape. There is not really to my eye a case where Marja was really "off" or not, her placings really depend on what the judges thought, noticed, were looking for or what? As far as the bodybuilding stage goes? I think she really brings it-bigtime.

I went to a training seminar in summer 2005 where Maija talked about working out, nutrition and competing. It was really interesting and she has tons of knowledge... true pro, inside and out. She was so cute and sweet, really nervous about the seminar. She told us the las time she had to speak for a group of people was long time ago in middle school or so, hehe. Being a pro here in such a small country is VERY different from what it is in the US. People don't understand it and many are afraid of diversity (not sure if that's a right word, but.. being different. You know what I mean). It's even really difficult to get sponsors, left alone seminars, guest posing... and all that stuff.

She's got world-class muscularity, no question about it, but her physique does not have the same aesthetic quality as Yaxeni or Iris.

That's why I keep saying there should be an unlimited division or competition for women who want to develop other-worldly muscularity like Marja, Renee, Dianne, etc.
