Hey All,

Thought i would kick off a little discussion that are on the minds of a lot of competitors. All are welcome to chime in. All photographers/websites are different and have different ways that they operate and what they are looking for. Ultimatly. all discussions are on an individual basis.

Pay Rates for Photoshoots:

Of course the obvious answer that most of you would expect to hear is 'It Varies'. With many photographers it is a standard practice to trade your time for photos. This means that (if you really like the photographers work) you will shoot for free and the photographer will either give you a CD of the pictures or make them downloadable in a zip file. The images you would recieve are generally resized with the photographers name on the image (watermarked)

There are also arrangements where the photographer will pay for your time. This amout is 'usually' around $100 per hour. If I shoot video and photos I generally will pay. Paid photo/video shoots means that you would flex.

I will say specifically to our website, that if you are a fitness or figure competitor, your time is MUCH more valuable if you have a noticable amount of muscle. Whether it places you higher or lower in contests is irrelevant. I am speaking about what we are looking for to keep the website going and what the fans are looking for.

For other freelance photographers like myself, we get paid by the magazines that we shoot for.

I never pay, but then again I deal more with prints. Also most what me to shot them, so they cover cost a little cash and a 12 pack is about all I need. lol Printing cost can get pretty up there depending on what people want.
