Hi guys!
I wanted to run this past y'all, and get some feedback. Opinions vary, so it will be interesting to hear what they are on this subject. I had to cancel my guest posing spot this year at the Texas due to my injury (which is doing way better!), so for future reference for me and some input for others...please CHIME IN!!! Here is the link to a thread concerning guest poser expectations as well: http://www.thelaststronghold.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=98
Thanks!!!

Hey gina, i guess i would want to be entertained to an extent but not with much expectation. After all, at a show i am already there to see a (hopefully) entertaining and exciting contest. i would not expect guest posers to be in peak condition or even near that. Too, i think that any fan of bodybuilding should (at least) go in with the knowledge that there is a certain look off-season and a certain look in the early months leading up to a contest. Entertaining, smooth, or not, i would still want to see individuals that i admire; especially if i have never seen them live before.

Hi Ms. Davis, usually what I hope to see in a guest posers' routine is some creative risk taking. It seems a perfect opportunity to push ones posing and routine design skills. What's the risk, you know? Successful elements can be used in future competitive efforts and the duds can be laughed at by you and your friends for years to come!
As far as conditioning I'm with HFS300. When it comes down to it, it's creative risk taking and entertainment that I hope to see. Cirque de Soleil has been a great source of inspiration for some. Just my 2 cents. Thanx.

I appreciate the replies. Next question: What would you like to see in terms of the poser's physique?

I think somewhat decent shape but not contest shape, obviously. But just make sure they can see some definition!

There seem to be so few women bodybuilders guest posing at shows these days, that when one does guest pose I'm just happy to see the appearance. Props are nice and they're appreciated, but I'm more impressed by whether the guest poser is in at least decent to pretty good shape. I think the biggest turn off is when a guest poser peforms for only a couple of minutes and leaves the stage. Being in pretty good shape, hitting a few extra poses, addressing the audience, and maybe even coming down off the stage so that people can get a close up picture is good enough in my opinion.

Posing is posing. Being a guest poser is being a guest poser. Too high a demand is being placed upon individuals to do all this extra stuff when they are contracted to 'guest pose'. It would of course, be a different thing if they had committed to doing one-on-ones and audience interactions in addition to posing. At the end of the day, i guess it all comes down to what they commited to doing and what they decide they should add to either enhance or detract from the experience.

To start and preface, let me say that I have never had the pleasure of getting to a show. Someday hope to. ONly thing I'm going by is video and pics found on the web. But from that perspective (and I would imagine it would be even moreso at a show), I would want to see something that is fun, entertaining, and shows muscle. Something that highlights the strengths, yet just is overall fun.
Not sure that I have really said much more than what has already been said, but just chiming in.

Hey Gina,
I would expect rounded yet hard muscle shapes and some definition showing. But most of all, where your lovely face and personality shows up, your great physique is sure to be there as well;) Have fun!!

IMO, I want to see almost contest shape. We don't want any offseason covering the muscle. Full abs is always nice and should be a standard. If I'm watching the mens and a guy is guest posing I want to see FREAKY MUSCLE. With that said, I would hold the standard fairly high for a woman to be pretty lean and within a couple weeks of being contest ready. A great example is Diana Dennis from her Canadian Nationals guest posing.... all i can say is WOW!

I think amandas expec of looking like your a few weeks out is a high expec. Dianna Dennis looks great, but for those who compete let me give you a diff perspective.
If you are competing at the usa's, but you had a chance to guest pose at the contra costa in may- it would be hard to look 2 weeks out at that point in your prep.
Some people stay leaner than othrs during the offseason. for ex. Dexter J's offseason looks a lot more conditioned than chris c's or lee's (old kfc lee that is!).
What i'm trying to say some body's look great offseason and some don't. Gina's offseason looks great- massive muscle, very round- amanda and elena look great too. I think as long as you step it up the week or two before the guest pose- you are alright.
Ive seen all of the aforementioned athletes do crazy things in a week or two and a person that is being contacted to pose knows what to do to make changes quick enough. no one expects onion thin skin and cross-stri's on a guest posing gig, but nice shapes and some abs are a plus.
Concentrate on poses that highlite the things that look good offseason (or whatever phase you are in). Arms, quad sweep, lat spread are some. Don't cover too much of that muscle up and you should be ok.
Remember- the audience is usually there for the love of the sport and appreciate anything that you give them- just my 2 c

I agree you can't expect a guest poser to be in contest shape as you don't want to change up your dieting for guest posing...i agree to perhaps tighten it up and come in somewhat shape as I stated earlier.
I guest posed this past saturday and I was not in contest shape but It was enough for a good performance.

For me the most important thing is presentation. Of course that comes from the performance angle more than from the pure physique angle.
The reason I like the performance side is that that is a great opening to involve and get other folks interested in bodybuilding.
Regardless, I think any guest posing that has more invested in it than a 'standard' routine is a good thing.

Couldn't agree more. I think the presentation and going the extra step are more important to me than whether or not someone is in awesome shape. Yeah, if they look 2 weeks out it's icing on the cake, but I just want to see something artistic.

It was fun putting together that Magic Box presentation, and it came out great. I think Kelvin will like it.
