Just curious if anyone has heard who is doing the Masters Nationals July 21 & 22nd. I will be among the lightweights again and have seen from the posts that both Michelle & Gerri will be there. (Good luck to you both!)

I can make a good guess at who is likely to be in my class but would love to hear about the others and how it's going. Robin Parker is helping me dial it in this time so I'm very excited, she's awesome!

Thanks!

Thanks for the well-wishes FemaleMuscleFan! It had seemed like there was plenty of time and now all of a sudden it's almost here!
Last year's was a good show with a great field of competitors and I'm sure this one will be also. I'm really looking forward to it. :)

Hey Sharon, it's in Pittsburg... really not that bad a drive from NC (if someone else is doing the driving, LOL!) Last year I drove myself and won't make that mistake again! If I'm remembering correctly, I think it took about 9 hours but wouldn't be that long if you don't have to stop at EVERY restroom on the way there!

I think Quincy, Diane & Marilyn (from G'BO) fly though.... much smarter and with gas prices, probably not much difference in expense. :)

Hey Ann!

Good luck to you too!!! Can't wait to see everyone...we had a great time last year!

I don't think Lora Ottenaud is competing...her hubby told me she's going to wait until the North American.

I heard from a fan that Trudy Ireland will be joining Pam Franklin and I in the heavyweights.

The 2006 Masters Nationals may prove to be the most interesting amateur event for Women competitors. The question, or, rather, fear in my mind is whether seasoned veteran favorites like Michelle Brent, Gerri Deach, and Debbie Bramwell will be unfairly punished by the judges for their superb development and conditioning. If so, "dark horse" competitors like Anita Nikolich may get some extra consideration from the judges, (particularly if Anita approaches the condition she displayed at the 2001 Nationals in Dallas).

Of course, this all just "pre-game" conjecture. Most importantly, I congratulate all of you who traveled to Pittsburgh to compete in this event, and I wish you all the very best of luck. You are all terrific!

I wanted to take a few moments to congratulate Michelle Brent on her showing at the Master's Nationals. In my experience working with Michelle for her shows I can honestly say that this is the best she's ever looked  .

I also wanted to take the time to say how happy Beth and I were to see Michelle and her husband Bill. We had a great time with them. It was also nice to see Gene and James. We also ran into Pam Franklin and her husband, who goes by FBBHubby. They were very nice to talk to, and we wish them nothing but the best.

The show had an excellent turnout for women's bb, and the show was deep with quality competitors. We want to congratulate Kim Buck on her win. She looks fantastic, and we wish her well in her new pro career :) .

It is nice to report (for a change) that, on the whole, the judging of this event seemed quite a bit more even throughout this event EXCEPT for one oddity that I'll get into later.

I went to Pittsburgh to support Debbie Bramwell who had been working with a new trainer over the past year in preparation for this contest. She was in superb shape, quite possibly the best shape of her career. Her legs seemed better, her lat spread was quite a bit improved, and she may have gained a bit of size in her biceps as well. On stage she was, as they say, “the total package” and to this observer at least she was the class of the entire Over 35 Women Masters Division.

Debbie did have to contend with Michelle Brent who also came to this content in tip-top shape. The two of them were side by side in the lineup and it was clear early on that one of these two women would ultimately win this division.

If I’m not correct this is the first time that Debbie has actually finished first overall in a national contest, allowing her the opportunity to take a shot at getting her pro card during the overall. I expect that she’ll do it again sometime soon.

I was disappointed with the outcome of the overall, which was eventually won by Kim Buck. I thought Debbie’s look was more refined, more mature and more aesthetically pleasing and I honestly believe that she should have won the overall as well as the Light-Heavies. Over the next few hours I took an informal “survey” of many of the old timers who had come to compete, people with years of experience, and most of them also felt that Debbie was the more likely winner.

Now for the judging oddity. Several other overalls had been conducted before the Women’s Masters and in each of them the winner was invariably the biggest person on the stage, even when some of the smaller competitors seemed to be the better choice. As best I recall this pattern continued up to and including the Women’s Masters Overall. It certainly could be coincidence but it did seem a bit unusual.

By the way all of the results from this content (and, I believe the individual scores as well) will be published sometime on Monday at http://www.garyudit.com

Having helped Michelle prepare for this show I believe I am showing my objectivity by saying that Kim Buck was the deserving winner of the overall. With all due respect to Debbie, you cannot even begin to compare Debbie's structure, symmetry, and lines to Kim. Kim had the best total package at that show, period. You're saying that Debbie's look was more refined and mature than Kim's. By contrast, Michelle's physique was definitely more mature and more packed with refined muscle. Again, I will chose not to enter a debate about Debbie vs. Michelle, but I will conclude by saying that Kim was the right choice for the overall. She was the most complete competitor in the show.

Most likely they have been doing gymnastics and/or maybe dance for quite awhile, i doubt they are lifting anything heavy.

ALL 8 of the teen fitness are cheerleaders. They do fitness routines only, no physique round. And I think all have gymnast backgrounds of various levels.

This is getting popular. It is called Jr. Fitness and they only get judged on a routine. They do not come out in a bikini or anything like that.

LeeAnn Thompson is the daughter of a friend of my husband and I. He is an NPC/IFBB judge and if I recall, he has taken over some duties as NPC chairperson for the state of Texas. Super nice guy. Lee Ann performed here in Colorado at the Colorado PRO/AM and her routine is out of this world!

Excellent.

This is great news. I hadn't followed up on it, but I'm glad that the NPC listened to its fan base on this all-important subject.

Congrats to my wife, Michelle Brent who I am so proud of for her all time best condition in Pittsburgh. Her 20 years of training, muscle maturity along with her 10+ top 5 finishes in NPC national shows is a true testiment to commitment to the sport. This longetivity and commitment is far greater than any[I][U] of her competitors in Pittsburgh (along with her condition & posing routine, which blew the roof off da joint). We had a super time hanging with Cal Joe and his girlfriend Bodybuilder Beth. I also enjoyed meeting FBB Hubby and his wife Pam Franklin.

Can someone post results beyond the judges' top 5?

In the HW FBBing, 3 of my favorites - Jayne Trcka, Gerri Deach and Trudy Ireland, were somehow overlooked, though I was told that Gerri was placed 6th.

You can say that again :headscrat . In keeping with tradition the NPC managed to put someone into the top 5 of the heavyweight class that had absolutely no business being there, and in doing so kept Gerri, Jayne or Trudy from being in the top 5. I was in the 1st row during prejudging and there seemed to be a collective sense of disbelief at what was going on during the heavyweight callouts.

Well, sir I do agree that there is no advantage whatever in doing any debating here. I feel that the adjudication was satisfactory and that, given the subjective nature of the scoring, different observers may hold different views as to the correctness of the result. You and I may differ in how we saw the outcome but at the end of the day it’s the judges’ word that counts.

By the way it is nice to see that Michelle has such a steadfast supporter. I wish you and her the best in the future.

Thanks for the kind words. Michelle brought a very full, hard, and balanced physique, and I took issue with the judging of the light-heavyweight class, however, I agree with the choice for the overall. As subjective as some comparisons can be, I feel that these calls should have been pretty easy to make.

Thanks Beth. It was great to finally meet you and CalJoe too. As well as seeing Michelle and Billy Biceps. It was fun to put together screen names with the face :D

BTW, the number of entrants in the Heavies and Lt. Heavies was up from previous years. I think there were about 13-14 in each of those divisions. 6 each in Light and Middles. This contest is getting more and more competitive since a pro card is up for grabs. It looked like everyone had stepped up their game.

I'm coaching the optionals... so my season doesn't start until late November and go til April'ish... So they will be out of season and training new skills. Perfect time for fun! I have one gymnast of mine who is actually 17... ripped. 6 pack abs, bicep vein going on in each arm... and beautiful shoulder caps! If only I had that conditioning when I was her age! I might have to look into it! I'm debating on bringing my girls to the Arnold Classic for their out of state meet... we'll have to see. They really need to be able to do well to bring them in for that level of a meet. I am soooo happy to be back coaching it. You know what goes into it, so you can appreciate it. :)

That's so great to hear. From the pics I've seen last year and again this year it seems like the standard has gone through the roof. Masters seems sooooo competitive now - as you said, the introduction of the pro card has totally transformed it. What I also love about this show is the muscle maturity on these competitors!!
